Maison Premiere closed for a while during the pandemic, seemingly permanently, and I was mourning. Thankfully, they came back and are still serving fabulous wine, absinthe cocktails, and a variety of seafood and oysters. It’s a gorgeous interior (very romantic but not corny), and the bartenders are intensely knowledgeable. Don’t skip the clams or the bottle list!

I am a beverage person - and we have spent our residency in Williamsburg finding the best places to grab a drink, especially wine. We have a fondness for natural wine but won’t hold that against bars with a conventional wine list!

Here’s a round up of where to wine and dine in Williamsburg, Brooklyn:

Must try: hanging out in the back yard. can’t say more, the menu is never the same twice! 

Sauced is actually one of the better wine bars in New York City, minus any snob or heir of pretension. They pride themselves on a casual vibe, knowledgeable staff and a delicious menu that changes weekly. The food is listed on a black chalk board, and the wine menu is listed nowhere. You’ll have to describe to your server what you’d like (or ask for a surprise). A great place for a date, GNO, or catch up with friends.

Pinkerton Wine Bar - an afternoon delight

Must try: oysters, seasonal food specials 

This spot has a casual vibe and a serious wine list.  The seating spills out from this gorgeous corner restaurant onto the sidewalk, and you can always find a small crowd sipping on wine and platters of oysters. It’s a top notch spot that won’t burn a hole in your wallet and will leave everyone walking by wishing they were at your table.  

Must try: everything, especially dessert 

It can’t be overstated how good this restaurant is. The Four Horsemen, owned by one of the members of LCD Soundsystem, is a truly remarkable wine bar and restaurant with service and an interior to match. This is one of my 5 favorite restaurants in the city, and I mean that seriously.

There are a lot of places where getting a reservation is near impossible, but few where it is justified. I first booked this restaurant 29 days in advance, and was gobsmacked by the quality of their wines by the glass, seared seafood and desserts. Dinner with a bottle of wine will set you back a fair bit, but the ambiance, bites and bottle list cannot be beat. 

This California focused winery is the perfect spot to have in your back pocket for any occasion. You can usually walk in, and the relaxed but buzzy ambiance is always welcoming. I really enjoy their food menu, which won’t punch a hole in their paycheck, and they serve great generous pours of wine. Particularly great for fans of white wine, in my humble opinion!

If you really want a good glass of wine, but your friends really really want a dive bar, we have a solution for you. A look at Maracuja on a Saturday night, filled to the brim with pool tables in the back, doesn’t necessarily scream great wine list. But you’d be wrong. The wine is great and the bartenders are trained to make just about any cocktail you can name. You’d be hard pressed to find anyone who couldn’t find something they like to drink here! 

You want wine, they want a cocktail, and someone needs a snack. 🍷🍸🥖

Spots for when everyone is in a different mood, and nobody should have to give in:

If you want some variety, and want to look cool while having it, Hotel Delmano is your best bet. Not only do they famously have my favorite cocktail in the city, The Alibi, they also have great oysters at a reasonable price plus a pretty snazzy wine list and some of the most chic seating in the neighborhood. It feels like you’re being transported to Paris, in the best way, and makes for a great spot for a pre-dinner pit stop, especially on a date.

Must try: absinthe cocktails, wine by the bottle

Luckily for Williamsburg locals (or visitors), the selection of wine available to take home is just as stellar as the list at many restaurants. Whether you’re looking for something affordable, highly rated, or funky and rare, these shops are your best bet! 👇
