Coimbra, Portugal, is the 3rd biggest city in the country. Right in the middle of the beautiful Portugal and having no airport, Coimbra is the best city for those who want to travel to the portuguese countryside while visiting a city with great history! 

Main places of importance

Walking around 

You can always choose one of the many free walking tours that are availiable in the city. However, if you love strolling around on your own be sure not to miss the most beautiful corners. 

- Starting from Praca da Republica, one of the main meeting points of the youth take the stairs at Escadas Monumentais and visit the University campus area.

University of Coimbra

The University of Coimbra is one of the oldest in Europe, dating back to the 1290. Visit the old faculty buildings and the Clock Tower. Don't forget to have a look at the special Joanina library with the priceless collections!

- Move towards the Se Velha cathedral and have a walk around the old town. You may see many students wearing the traditional costume - something reminding of the Harry Potter stories.

- If you have extra time and you love nature you can take a walk at the Jardim Botanico and across the Mondego's Verde Park.

Food and drinks

While in Portugal you have to try the many different and unique dishes with bacalhau (cod).  For drinks, you can choose among the many bars with local beers that you can find near Se Velha or at Praca da Republica.
