Colazione ☕️

Bar San Calisto
@MementoMartina
Homey bar, great for a coffee and a maritozzo (brioche-like buns filled with whipped cream). Loved by locals and visitors alike. Circle back around in the evening for a spritz or after-dinner drinks.

Sant' Eustachio Il Caffè
@MementoMartina
One of Rome's historical cafes. It is rumored that they invented the Nescafé coffee pod. Order a regular coffee, a cold coffee cream, or a coffee granita with whipped cream… and of course some pastries! You can either consume at the counter (which can be a bit convoluted) or by ordering from a server, seated at one of their tables for best people-watching (for which there is “coperto”, a small surcharge for service). Also a great place to purchase coffee to take back home.

Antico Caffè Greco
@MementoMartina
One of the most famous literary cafes in Rome since the 17 hundreds. Historically frequented by famous poets and artists like Keats, Goethe, and Byron. Go here to treat yourself to an espresso in a gorgeous location with great service. Note: pricey but a unique spot.

Street food 🥪

Mercato di Testaccio
@MementoMartina
Rome’s oldest covered food market, where the locals go to do their daily groceries. Open every day except Sundays from the early morning hours to 1:30 PM. Skip breakfast at your accommodation and enjoy breakfast, or brunch, at the market: - sandwiches at Mordi e Vai (box #15), especially the artichoke and pecorino cheese sandwich (vegetarian); - cheese and natural wine at Da Corrado (box #18), - Roman-style pizza by the slice at Casa Manco (box #22); - sweet and savory baked goods at Da Artenio (box #90). Forno Campo de' Fiori
@MementoMartina
🇬🇧 A great option for breakfast or for a quick lunch. Go here to taste real Roman white "pizza", a sort of flatbread/focaccia, to be enjoyed as is or stuffed with mortadella, or any of their seasonal sweet baked goods. When they have them, don't miss out on whipped cream-filled maritozzi, like a shoft, leavened brioche. There might be a line.

CasaManco n. 4
@MementoMartina
🇬🇧 One of the best Roman pizzas for the Gambero Rosso guide and Dissapore. Two locations: one in the new Testaccio market, at box number 22, and one in Trastevere, with a central counter and an open kitchen. The pizza dough is a mix of soft wheat flour and farro flour, leavened for 100 hours, very fragrant, with a nice and crunchy crust, and with rich alveolation. Various and unique flavors. Gusti vari e unici.
