1. Travel on the iconic Cable Car from Lambton Quay to the top and get great views of the city and harbour. Don’t forget to check out the Cable Car Museum which is free and has a cute gift shop.

2. Have a walk around the Botanical Gardens. There is lots to see with many paths leading to different botanical displays, sculptures and native forest. The Begonia House (greenhouse) is definitely worth a visit and the Picnic Cafe is next door so makes the perfect pit stop.

3. If you fancy some history the Pukeahu National War Memorial Park is a good place to start. Here you can learn and reflect on the country’s experience of war, military conflict and peacekeeping, and how those experiences have shaped their ideals.

4. If you’re feeling peckish there’s an abundant of options for places to eat in Wellington. But if you’re want something quick easy and fuss free head to Willis Lane. You can choose from Malaysian food, pasta, Mexican, cheese steaks and much more. It’s the best food court I’ve ever been to.

5. If you’re still hungry for some history and want to learn more about New Zealand then go to Te Papa museum. It’s currently free entry but I believe there will be an entry fee coming soon. This place is huge and you could easily spend hours here. It’s interactive and has lots of zones and cool spaces which is perfect for kids too. Also has a lovely cafe and a well organised gift shop.

6. If you fancy a bit of shopping and want to support small businesses then check out the Welly Collective Gift Shop. They have lots of amazing and different things to choose from (like these cool earrings) and the best bit is they’re all from independent local vendors but all under one roof. If you like a bit of quirky style then Cuba Street is the place to go. The old bank arcade is pretty cool too for a more bougie designer vibe.

7. For some beautiful views across the city then head up the walking tracks to the top of Mount Victoria. It’s quite the trek but doable and the reward when you reach the top is soaking in the 360 degrees views across Wellington city.

8. Wellington waterfront is perfect for a little stroll and great place for people watching. There’s plenty of restaurants and bars along here if you need to refuel. Be sure to check out the Wellington sign where you absolutely have to stand in place of the ‘I’ and take a photo for the gram.

9. If visiting on a Sunday then the Harbourside Market is a must. Huge selection of fresh produce to choose from. Lots of independent sellers and you’re almost spoiled for choice for street food vendors. There’s normally a bit of music going on too so it’s got a really cool Sunday chill vibe.
