First, let’s find a place to stay. Camping within New River Gorge is free and is on a first come first serve basis. We had no problem finding a spot when arriving to the campgrounds in early afternoon, even on the weekend.

Absolutely gorgeous spots right along the river but you have to park and walk a little ways to your camp spot. Not a big deal if you prepare for it.

We love the small path that leads to the river, we got it all to ourselves for hours!

If you’re not one for camping I’d recommend looking for a hotel in Beckley. There are also many Airbnbs or house rentals available.
We stayed in this cabin on our first visit and it was wonderful!
