Spend the day in San Francisco
Getting around.....
We rented a car for 24hrs which was a total cost of $60. Absolutely recommend doing this as it’s the most convenient way to get around especially when you have a lot of stops planned in your day. *don’t forget to pay for parking. Most street parkings have meters in front of them, and don't forget to LOCK the car and don't leave any valuables visible as San Fran is known for it's smash 'n grabs.
Things to do:
Golden Gate Bridge
First stop‑ drive across the Golden Gate Bridge towards Sausalito, it’s a quick ride up to “Golden Gate View Point” where you can park and take photos with incredible views of the bridge, it’s also not as crowded as the view point on the other side of the bridge.
*You can also see Alcatraz from there.
Sausalito Waterfront
Next, take a drive to Sausalito waterfront, it’s a quaint little town with views of the bay. There are many restaurants and shops to explore. Definitely worth a visit.
Andy Goldsworthy's Wood Line
Next, we did a quick drive through this beautiful wood line which is in downtown San Francisco. There is place to park and get out to take photos if you wish to do so. Beautiful forrest in the city.
Painted Ladies
If you were a fan of “Full House” then you would recognize these iconic colorful homes. They are known as the “Painted Ladies”, you can park alongside the park that’s opposite the strip of houses and take some photos with the city in background.
Lombard street (the crookedest street in the world)
This one block on Lombard street is famously known as the crookedest street in the world, it gets very crowded with people trying to take photos, so the best way to see it is by taking a slow drive down the street.
Cable Car Ride
This is a must do when in San Fran, one of my favorite memories. There are a few places you can climb on, just look for the purple cable car signs however it doesn’t stop unless you get the drivers attention, you can also get on at Hyde & Powell street. You can either buy tickets online or at the stand before you get on. It can get busy, we stood in line for about 30‑40 minutes, but so worth it. Ticket costs $8 and takes you all the way to China town and back if you wish, or you can tell the driver when you want to get off at any of the stops. I recommend trying to get a spot standing on the outside, so you can get the full experience, just hold on tight and enjoy.
Ghirardelli Square
If you are a chocolate fan, I recommend taking a walk around Ghirardelli Square(across the street from where you get on the cable car). There is a few restaurants to have some lunch, get some drinks with a view of the waterfront, or just indulge in ice‑cream and chocolate treats.
Pier 39 @ Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco
Lastly, stop at Pier 39 for a bite to eat, many restaurants to choose from. (Mostly seafood restaurants)It’s a busy pier, with shops and restaurants, and if you manage to stop there before sunset, go have a look at the colony of sea lions that are hauled out on the docks.
