Athens has plenty of stay options from hostels to luxury hotels. I did a trip in September 2023 and stayed in couple of hostels - Athens Backpackers and Athens Hub Hostel. Both hostels are clean and spacious. They have dorms and privates too. I liked Athens Hub more due to its proximity to Acropolis. You might wanna choose yours depending on the distance from the port/airport, Acropolis, eateries and your next destination. Protip: Staying in and around Monastiraki square is a great idea.
Acropolis is the highlight of the city. It is 10 mins hike from Monastiraki square. However, you may see yourself standing in the queue for 1-2 hours for the ticket and another 1-2 hours to get in, depending on the rush and climate. It’s shut if it rains. The ticket is EUR 20. Do not buy tickets online. You’ll have to queue up anyway. I recommend you visit early in the morning. It opens at 8 am. The museum is worth visiting too. It was raining when I was there, and they shut the Acropolis. I visited the museum instead (I’m not a museum person) and it was wonderful. Try M.S. Roof top for a Acropolis view dinner. The live ice roll ice-creams at The Ice Cream Shop is exactly what you need to end, or start, your day.
