Bali: A guide for more than generic pics, yoga and traffic jams. Head to the heart of Bali, explore how much it has to offer.
After traveling to over 80 countries and riding all through Bali on a motorcycle solo, this is what I would do if I went back.
1. Gerokgak
One of the best places I rode to, Sumberkima. After a long travel journey, hop in an A/C van from the airport and pass out as you drive to the North West corner of Bali. What awaits you is Luxury Private Villas with private infinity pools, overlooking some of the most breath taking scenery straight to the ocean. With chef curated meals, free diving lesson, volcano hikes and even a 5 star spa, this is a place that won't disappoint.
2. Pondok Plantation
Don't let the name fool you, it's a beautiful stay. About an hour north of the bustling yoga town of Ubud, relax in the tranquil serenity that is a luxury colonial lodge stay. Head into the hustle and bustle of tourists, yogi's, and backpackers during the day, or toward the volcano a short drive north, maybe pop over to the monkey forest. This central location lets you do it all while having a quiet space away from it all at the end of the night.
3. Karangasem
Get ready to head east as you venture to a small colonial lodge at the base of Mount Agung. With a phenomenal collection of plants, peaceful private villas, and easy access to hikes, diving, surfing and more, Bukit Asri lodge will take care of you.
Conclusion
Bali has a lot to offer, head off the beaten path and explore. The locals have so much warmth in their hearts just be respectful and self aware of how your own actions effect others. You'll have a great time, I know I did, from being invited to local celebrations in strangers houses, to joining a community new years party that I was invited to buying beer in a road side market at 11pm. Its a beautiful place with beautiful people.
