Ella, Sri Lanka
First station - Hostel
After a really long drive from the airport, we made it to Ella and out first station was the Hostel: Wild Bee Hostel.
I immediately fall in love with this insane view and the nice crew there. This hostel offers dorms room, all with terrace to this view. I felt so peaceful while I sat on that terrace and listened to the sounds of quiet.
Also the hostel offers a free breakfast everyday, and the food was on of the best that I ate in Ella. There's several different dished and I tried them all lol. The owner was super nice and helped us with everything that we needed and more. This hostel gets 5 stars from me and big recommendation for you guys.
Nine Arches Bridge & Little Adam's Peak
NINE ARCHES BRIDGE
Soooo on our first day we walked from our hostel to see the famous nine arches bridge (around 2km) we accidentally found an amazing and unpopular view, with a small tree house where I could stay hours watching the nature and the bridge, write some stuff in my sketchbook, and enjoying the silence of an unpopular view from a popular place to visit.
If you wanna go there you should ask a tuk-tuk driver to take you to the bridge, then you keep walking on a small road and ask some locals. you need to get down lots of stairs but the view is worth it I promise.
LITTLE ADAM'S PEAK
After spending some hours watching the bridge view, we continued our trip and went to Little Adam's Peak, which is not small at all lol.
I think we climbed around 40 floors on the mounting stairs, but then you get to an amazing view and that's worth every single stair. The best part was to see the sunset with that view, and also its not too hot like the noon. But you can do it anytime of the day.
The climb itself took me around 45 minutes so if you wanna see the sunset from the top of the Little Adam's Peak, start at least 1h before sunset. This view is so beautiful.
Diyaluma waterfalls
The place that you CAN'T miss.
1:30h drive from Ella.
We rent a scooter (2000rs per day) but you can also take a tuk-tuk/texi (more expensive) and honestly the road is way better and beautiful from a scooter.
That's a little hike till you get to the end, but sooo amazing, my favorite day in Ella and if you're traveling to Ella you can't miss this one.
In the middle of the hike you'll have a nice view on this little town, you can stop there for a bit and swim in the little pools, but keep climbing to the top of the waterfall which have an incredible view! Also there's two pools at the upper waterfalls which have 12meters between so you can jump from one to the other. (Adrenalin addicted only)
WARNING: If you like to travel so you don't have to take the guide! It's expensive and you can see all the way in AllTrails. No danger in the hike.
Nil Diya Pokuna
So that's a cave with a secret lagoon inside, this time you'll have to take a guide and its 3000rs per person. You can go alone but it's better in groups for this one. About 30/40 minutes away from Ella. (tuk-tuk/ scooter)
I went with a friends and we had to get down with a long climb, so this one is really really underground. (I think around 60 meters) The walk inside the cave is pretty short, around 25 minutes, and the water are so clear! That's a really nice magical and mysterious place.
Others & reccomadation
- We rent a scooter for our whole stay in Ella and I recommends you to do it as well. It's way more cheaper then take tuk-tuk every time. Also there's lots of landscapes all around the roads in Ella, we spent a whole day just driving around and looking for some landscapes and it was incredible view.
- Everyday we walked to another high landscape to see the sunset.
- Bars & Parties: for party you can go to "One Love" , they're having a party everyday. and if you want a chill and nice bar then I recommends you to go to the billiard bar on the main street. (have no name but you'll see it, the street is kinda small and short one)
- Affortnatly I didn't made it to the train, but if you have enough time you should take the train from Ella to Nuara Elya (or opsite). That's the most beautiful train road in the world so maybe you should try.
- Breakfast: most of the days I ate in the hostel which was really great, but I can recommend you on Rainbow cafe. I ate there with friends and it was much better then i expected. if u wanna have a really nice breakfast with good coffee, then u found a place.
- Now I'll just add some of the photos I took on the road, enjoy :)
