Brighton : Seaside Favourites

Brighton : Seaside Favourites

Brighton is an easy trip from London. You can do it on a day trip or a weekend break. Its a great place to get a feel for a typical UK seaside town. It became popular especially in the Victorian times when doctors would send their patients to the seaside for its health benefits. Its believed that the sound/ of water can relax our nervous system and a whole other list of things. I have included our regular spots and things we like to do when we go and where we usually stay. I have also included a day trip we did to Virginia Woolf's house which would be great when you've got more than one day in the area. This is probably a combo of a map/detailed guide as I've put a lot of information on each place card. Currently Includes: 5 activities, 2 running routes, 5 restaurants, 2 cake/cafe stops, our favourite health food/organic shop for snacks and our favourite hotel.

DO:

Some of our favourite things to do in Brighton and the seaside:

Brighton Palace Pier
@christinejolley
Beautiful Victorian Seaside Pier. Typical British amusements inside like a Helter Skelter, Video games, candy floss (cotton candy) and more. You MUST at least go in here once even just to walk around. If you want to do something very British buy some of the fudge or icecreams on offer.

Royal Pavilion + Museum
@christinejolley
The Royal Pavilion is a slightly odd looking building but its a must when you visit Brighton as its beautiful inside. Go inside and try to go early to avoid crowds. The gardens surrounding the Pavilion are always beautiful and worth some time relaxing or if the weather allows to take a picnic. When you're done go to the Museum around the corner which is really good. They've always got new exhibitions going on and its one of the better local museums I've seen in the UK. Once you buy a ticket its good for a year !

The Lanes
@christinejolley
The lanes are a lot of fun to wander round. Some parts of them date back to the 16th Century. There's a lot of little shops, art galleries, restaurants and cafe's.

Brighton Street Art/Graffiti
@christinejolley
I've included this not necessarily for the graffiti but for the big street art scene in Brighton. Everywhere you work there's something. When you're wandering around Brighton do have a look at all the art. Around the train Station there's a big street art mural with a Banksy replica. There's also street art tours that you can do. I've included the link for more information on both:

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
I'm an American in London who has lived here over 20 years. I adore travelling and our trips (my partner and I) always involve something artsy (gallery, museum), nature, exercise, wandering, good food and lots of cafe stops. Besides London have spent serious amounts of time in Paris France although my french is a work in progress. I will always try to recommend places my partner and I been to personally. We have done backpacking through Thailand, Morocco and Egypt, done mid range hotels through Europe and have done luxury too where we've eaten at Michelin Restaurants and stayed at Posh hotels. So a real range in our holidays but we always try to have a good balance in whatever we do. Here to give you suggestions on London from the perspective of someone who has lived here quite a long time. Will also share itineraries on other places I've been to in Europe and elsewhere. Former music teacher now PT film/TV extra and blogger and travel lover.
