🇬🇧 The Perfect Day Trip to Oxford, England

🇬🇧 The Perfect Day Trip to Oxford, England

Oxford is the perfect day trip from London! This guide has everything you need for a day out in Oxford. There's enough to do here over two days, but I've included different priorities if your focused on Oxford University, churches, Harry Potter, C.S. Lewis, or a little of everything! In this guide, you'll find: - how to get to Oxford without a car - recommendations for day trips and walking tours - which colleges to prioritize visiting - 7 sights in town, including which are worth buying tickets and which to walk by - the optional add on nearby you may not think of - 7 restaurants of different cuisines and price points - 3 cafes and breakfast spots

Getting There

Train are faster, taking about 1 hour 15 minutes from central London. Use Citymapper for this; there are plenty of options depending on where you start your journey. Traveling by train is usually more expensive, 30£-45£ each way, but if you plan ahead you can find fares for as cheap as 6£ one way.

The other option is by bus, which was my favorite. The Oxford Tube is so great because buses run every 20 minutes all day. It takes about 2 hours each way, and you can prebook tickets for as low as 20£ round trip. They also didn’t seem to care if you weren’t on the correct time you prebooked, as long as you had a ticket!

Note that if you pick it up at Victoria Station, it means Victoria bus station, not the Underground station. You can check the full schedule and buy tickets on their website.

Questions? Reach out! Amateur Italian, travel advisor, and adventurous eater! I’m a travel creative living in small town northern Italy, and I've been planning travel for over 15 years. I've lived on three continents and visited over 40 countries, so I'm passionate about helping travelers experience the best of a location, no matter where! I love both/and travel: I want to see the big sights AND the local hangouts, the big cities AND the small towns. I’d love to help you do it too! If you’re going to Rome for the first time, you don’t need me to tell you to see the Colosseum. But you might want me to tell you if it’s better as a guided tour or on your own, what add-on’s are worth the money, and what are the extra secret things your ticket can get you! My favorite part of travel is eating well: finding the local haunts, tasting a new wine, and trying the local dishes. Amazing food doesn't have to be expensive: sometimes the best of a place is in the street food! But if it is a splurge, I'll make sure it's worth every penny. I'd love to work with you to create the trip of your dreams!
