Planning a getaway to Wien

If you’re planning on going to Wien, but only have time for a couple of days use these simple tips.

If you are on a budget or if you don’t want to spend too much on the hotel/airbnb make sure you don’t stay near the Innere Stadt and rather look for hotels or Airbnbs near the city centre. Though if you’re lucky and you plan with time you might find something for a good price there as well.

Getting around in Wien is not difficult at all with the transport system and it is also not expensive. So it doesn’t matter where you stay, you can get to the main attractions easily and fast. You can get your tickets at the stations or download the “WienMobil” app.

Deciding what to see when you’re only a couple of days in a new city can be quite difficult but I’ll make it simple and give you a small list of the places you can’t miss on your visit.

2. Schönbrunn Palace

3. Stephen’s Carhedral

4. Volksgarten

5. Belvedere Museum

6. Historic Centre of Wien

7. Karlskirche

And when you’re tired from walking and hungry for a bite make sure you stop at a café (restaurant) and have some traditional Austrian meal. The most famous dish that Austria has to offer is the Wiener Schnitzel, which might be your first option if you only want to have one Austrian dish when you go. But if you want to try other options you can have a Pumkin soup, Gulash, Würstel or a Potato salad.

But don’t think we’re forgetting about another of Wien’s main attractions: the Sacher-Torte. You can get the cake in the most popular place, which is the Cafe Sacher, but there are a couple of other places where it might be better because for this cafe there is always a line to get in. One is the Demel, another Cafe Central, and Gerstner K. u. K. Hofzuckerbäcker.

Hi! I'm Yunuen Polo, I'm 31 years old and I live in México City. I started travelling at a very young age. My parents introduced me to the love of travelling literally when I was just 3 months old. They took me to the beach and from then on, I believe, it is perhaps my favourite destination. But well, I studied English Literature at UNAM in Mexico and had been a teacher for 10 years. I recently became a mother and decided to try other sorts of incomes, like putting my knowledge and love of travelling into practice. Anyways, since I was young my parents took me to every destination possible from Cancun to Guadalajara to San Francisco to Hawaii to Canada and even Australia. I was always ready to go on a road trip or to get on a plane. For most of my life my trips were arranged for me, until I was in my early twenties and my best friend of the time and I decided we wanted to do a Eurotrip. But, our parents would've never let us go backpacking so we spent months planning our trip. From how to use the Eurail as our main transport, to finding cheap flight for the places we couldn't reach by train to cheap accomodations and everything there was to see in each city so that when we were there we wouldn't waste time figuring out what to do next. It was such a great experience that from then on I also helped my parents, family, and friends plan their own trips (before that they usually paid agencies and travelled with tours). It is not so easy to plan a trip by onseself, you might get carried away by a so called special offer, which turns out not be so special in the end. You might find the wrong info about what to see or not so detailed explanations about the places and end up somewhere you don't really like. In any case, I decided to join this community to help other travellers get the best out of the places they want to go and the kind of trip they want to make. I'm always happy to help, specially when it comes to planning a trip.
