• Visit as a day trip from Valle d’Itria or the Ionian coast. 

• Pro Loco Grottaglie, the local tourist office, is known to be very helpful. Don’t hesitate to reach out to them if you need more help planning your day here! 

• Head straight to the Ceramics Quarter. Pop in whichever botteghe catch your eye, prioritizing the ones I’ve included here. There are about 50 total.

• If you're lucky, you'll get to see the ceramacists at work in their studios. It's hard to predict exactly when they'll be working. If you have your heart set on a behind the scenes look into the process, book a workshop tour in advance.

There are two different ceramic making traditions in Grottaglie: 

1. caposanara/ruagnara centered around kitchen utensils and everyday objects 

2. faenzara focused on decorative pieces in the majolica tradition. 

I personally prefer the practical everyday pieces.
