The perfect 8 days in the Maldives
You will be arriving into the Maldives via Male airport.
Depending on where your resort is you will either be taking a seaplane or speedboat transfer.
We opted to stay at Summer Island so took a speedboat transfer. You will be instructed on where to wait from the arrival terminal.
The transfer took 45 minutes its some of the clearer water we have ever saw.
We upgraded on resort to a 1 night stay in an overwater bungalow as this was cheaper.
Top tip- we recommend upgrading to one night in a water bungalow in resort if available and low season as its cheapest to do it this way.
We stayed in a beach bungalow which led right out to the beach and was spacious with an outdoor shower.
You can hire snorkeling equipment from the resort at 15 us dollars per day per person
So bring your own if you can. They will not let you on boat trips without flippers.
Every day there is a free boat ride to see mantras and turtles season dependant.
Mantra ray season is during the summer months between June and September, cold water upwellings create the perfect conditions for manta rays, as well as the extraordinary mola mola.
After spending 4 days relaxing and snorkeling it's time to head back to Male airport for a speedboat transfer to Maafushi islands.
This is 25 us dollars per person and can be booked through Icom tours.
It is a 30 minute transfer.
We decided to stay at the Velena Hotel Maafushi for 3 days on a full board basis.
We then starting looking around for the best tours to do for our three days on the island.
Please note Maafushi is a local island so it is a dry island. There are daily trips to a sail boat out at sea where you can drink on board.
We chose icom tours but if you want a more party vibe then shadow palms are very popular and offer drone footage for an extra cost.
The tours we decided on where:
Snorkeling with whale sharks
Shipwreck tour
If you want to sunbathe on Massfushi then there is a designated beach called bikini beach.
If you are looking for a nice out of the way instagrammable cafe then check out Blunch. It has amazing fresh coconuts and iced coffees too.
If you are looking to have alcohol don't worry there is a boat docked out at sea you can visit for drinks easily accessible from Maafushi.
I hope you enjoyed this guide. Happy travels
