A Day in Morro Bay
Michaela Rabinov
Available for hire
This is one of my favorite places on the Central Coast. This little town has an amazing beach, the iconic haystack rock, and several cute eateries that are worth checking out (yes, amazing seafood too). It's maintained its old-timey coastal town vibe, and will definitely keep you coming back.
This guide contains all of my personal recommendations for places to eat and things to do in the area that I have actually been to.
With this Guide you’ll get:
- A full day’s itinerary for visiting Morro Bay, including things to do & places to eat.
- An interactive map to guide you!
Enjoy!

Morning
Arrive in Morro Bay and grab breakfast and a coffee. Eat on the back patio, then take the rest of your coffee with you to the beach.
Top Dog Coffee Bar
@michaela
This spot serves excellent coffee, yummy breakfast burritos, and really good baked goods (get the pistachio scone). It also has a super cute outdoor area to sit in the back. They work closely with the local dog rescue, hence the name.

After you've eaten, head down to the beach to explore the Haystack Rock & the beach.
Morro Rock
@michaela
Park at the large parking lot, and then head around the left side of the rock. There is a flat paved trail that will give you views of the bay's inlet. Look closely at the water, you may see otters!
As you walk around the side of the haystack rock, you'll come to a place where people have built hundreds or rock cairns.

After you've explored around the rock, head down the beach.
Morro Strand State Beach
@michaela
This is one of my favorite beaches in California. For some reason, when you walk down the beach, and then turn to see Morro Rock, it's one of the coolest beach views. The beach glistens with the reflection of the rock as the water runs back into the sea. It's also an amazing spot at sunset due to the way the water glistens on the beach.
You'll see a lot of birds and sand dollars on the beach here too. It's also a pretty decent surf spot.
