Day 1
Assuming you arrive in La Fortuna in the afternoon, head straight to check in to your first hotel.
Hotel Arenal Lodge
@michaela
This hotel is by no means fancy, but it might be one of my favorite hotels that I've ever stayed in. It sits on 2000 acres of tropical rainforest, overlooking an absolutely insane view of the Arenal Volcano. The hotel itself has a lodge feel, just like its name. The rooms are rustic, with dark wood and balconies looking out on the view of Arenal. During our stay, we had an incredible thunderstorm pass through, and a highlight was sitting in the rocking chairs on our balcony, just watching it.
The hotel is located a little bit out of town, but it will only take you about 15-20 minutes to drive to town. Honestly, you probably won't need to, except for your daytime activities though. The drive up to the hotel from the main road is super long and winding. Literally, you think you're there, and then you see a sign that says "you're halfway". Trust me, the view is worth it though.
The main lodge is attached and has a lobby where you can play chess or Fussball. There is also a restaurant and bar with incredible Arenal views, where you'll be served your complimentary breakfast in the morning. The restaurant also had incredible food for dinner, so I would recommend enjoying that at least one evening while you're there. The bar also has a pool table.
If you exit out of the bar toward the volcano, you'll find yourself at the infinity pool, which again, has incredible views of the property and Arenal. There are also two hot tubs, which you can reserve ahead of time for privacy, and because they are heated by gas, so need to be turned on.
The owners of the hotel are a super nice Costa Rican couple, who truly make you feel at home during your stay. The property also has a full botanical garden which you can hike through.
Seriously, stay here. It's amazing.

I recommend spending the afternoon relaxing at the hotel, exploring the gardens on the grounds, enjoying dinner at the restaurant, and maybe reserving some time in one of the hot tubs.
