Oaxaca City:

When you visit Oaxaca, be sure to allocate a few days to explore the vibrant culture and cuisine of it’s capital city. It’s the perfect city to explore on foot, with plenty of shopping, incredible restaurants with traditional fare like mole (an absolute must-try!), and a charming center with wide stone-paved streets to walk along.

Oaxaca does get rainy in the summer, as well as hot and humid. For these reasons, I recommend visiting between the months of October through April.

Activities:

Monte Albán
@anneka
Monte Albán is a huge archeological site just a short drive from Oaxaca City center. It’s a great activity that will take up most of the day. Be sure to bring sunscreen and a hat as there is not much shade at the site.

Mercado Sánchez Pascuas
@anneka
One of the best things to do in Oaxaca City is to explore the many markets filled with diverse and exotic foods. I love this market because there are always ladies selling new fruits and veggies that I’ve never seen before and a delicious juice bar

Mercado Benito Juárez
@anneka
This Mercado is like an iconic Mexican market: huge, with pretty much anything you could ever need. This market in particular has more traditional Oaxacan food items like chocolate, mole, spices, crickets, incense… you name it. Come here for all your traditional wares! It’s perfect for buying real Oaxacan goods for friends and fam or just to bring back home and use.
