A Weekend in Bratislava

A Weekend in Bratislava

Linda Capancioni
This is a miniguide about a weekend I had with my partner in Bratislava. We currently live in Vienna and Bratislava is the perfect weekend destination since you can reach it in one hour by train. In this guide, we collected our favorite landmarks, food places, and shop, with a bonus list for Brutalis architecture lovers.

How to reach Bratislava from Vienna

Travelling from Vienna to Bratislava could not be easier. There is an ÖBB weekend ticket for €18 which includes:

- Trip from Vienna to Bratislava by train

- Free transports in Bratislava during the first day (only) of validity of the ticket

- Travel back to Vienna by train

You can decide whether to have a day trip or a weekend in Bratislava since the ticket is valid for about 4 days.

Once you bough the ticket, remember to print it at a ÖBB machine just before the departure. You can find these machines and the info point of Vienna's central station, where the train to Bratislava starts.

Connection Vienna-Bratislava and viceversa occur every hour and it takes 59 minutes to arrive to the destination, so you have plenty of choice and flexibility.

I had breakfast with pastries and cappuccino and for me, it was a 10/10. I also brought one of their bread loaves at home and I loved it.

Le Due Sicilie

I would have never expected to find such an amazing pizza out of Italy. There are multiple toppings to choose from and the dough is light and tasty. Italian approved.

Langos Bar

The langos is extremely good, filling and affordable (€5). There are not many topping options but I went for the classic creme, cheese, and garlic. Perfect for garlic lovers.
