Dunedin was founded by Scottish settlers in the 19th century and, during the Gold Rush of the 1860s, it became the biggest city in New Zealand. You'll see a lot of the historic Victorian and Edwardian buildings from back then and it's often referred to as the Edinburgh of New Zealand.
Dunedin is home to a Royal Albatross Colony, the only mainland breeding spot for albatrosses in the world, to the rare Yellow-Eyed Penguin, New Zealand’s only castle and holds the record for the world’s steepest street!
The Octagon is the central hub of Dunedin. It's an eight-sided plaza right in the heart of the city, surrounded by shops, cafes, restaurants, and landmarks like the Dunedin Town Hall and St. Paul's Cathedral. Most accommodations are central and make it easy to walk to most places.

A former dilapidated hotel in the Warehouse Precinct from the 1800s is now home to 7 designer one and two bedroom apartments just a 5 min walk from the city centre.

Saint Clair Beach
Saint Clair is only a 10-minute drive from the centre of Dunedin so if you don't feel like staying in the city centre Saint Clair might be a great alternative for you.

This boutique hotel sits right on the esplanade. Some of the rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the beach. There are many great restaurants and bars just steps from the hotel.
