Tenerife

Tenerife

Tenerife is my favourite out of all the Canary Islands and I cannot recommend it highly enough. For me it has the best of both: beaches and mountains. It has endless hiking and incredible wilderness, but it also has infrastructure, bars, restaurants and whatever you can think of. If you're looking for a place where you will be practically guaranteed good weather, not too far from Europe, and can spend time in nature then look no further.

I have been to Tenerife multiple times and have hiked around the island a lot. My goal with this guide is to share with you the beauty of this island, and all of my best kept secrets I've learned over the years. Don't forget to check the entire guide as at the end you will find my hiking recommendations and reviews.

About Tenerife

Tenerife is my favourite Canary island. You will quickly find out that although the Canary Islands are part of Spain, they don't really consider themselves Spanish. They themselves recognize they are closer to the African continent, and as such this has influenced the culture and way of life.

There is also a close relationship between the Canary islands and Venezuela as there has been a lot of migration between both countries over the years. Hence there is also cultural influence between the two.

The food is delicious and very similar to what you will find on the Spanish mainland, with some "Canarian specialities". An absolute must if you are a meat-eater is to try a "guachinche", a sort of local grill.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
I'm Emma, an avid traveller and I've been fortunate enough to travel my whole life. I frequently travel as a solo female traveller. I have been all over Europe, and places further afield like Cuba, Japan and Thailand to name a few. I also lived for 8 years in Geneva, 6 years in Amsterdam, and have been going to London since I was a child. When I travel I love to discover the best of local destinations, whether that's cafes, bars or restaurants, but also outdoor spots, hikes, beaches, or other unique locations. My goal is to travel on an affordable budget that doesn't break the bank, but without being on a shoestring either. On Thatch I want to share my knowledge, years of experience and research with you, to enable you to make the most of your travels and help you fall in love with the places I've been.
