Iceland 10 day South Coast Adventure
Hi there! My name is Divya and I recently had the pleasure of exploring Iceland. This was my first holiday since the COVID-19 pandemic so I was really excited and put my heart and soul into planning the best trip ever to this magnificent land of ice. It was my first visit there and I spent 10 days on the road with my family in the middle of winter! Traveling in Winter has its own set of challenges, but we still got to see and experience Iceland's natural beauty! So whether you're planning a trip in the summer or winter, or you're travelling with kids and aged folks, in this itinerary, I'll be detailing my day-by-day adventures, including all the best sights, activities, and recommendations that made my trip so memorable. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a seasoned traveler, I hope this itinerary will help you make the most of your own trip to Iceland down the South coast!
FLIGHT TIPS
I come from sunny Singapore all the way from Southeast Asia. So for this trip I had made a stop-over in Berlin, Germany before catching my flight on Iceland Air to visit Iceland. There are only a few airlines that fly directly to Iceland, remember Iceland is an island inbetween 2 continents (Europe and America) so it is a good distance away. It is advisable to account for flight delays due to bad weather if you're travelling in Winter- what I did was I buffered a few extra days between my return flight from Iceland and subsequent departing flight to Singapore, just incase I got stranded and couldn't make it home (the weather turned out fine though and our flight was timely).
If you do have a direct flight from your home country then that's great! Otherwise I'd advice stopping at Finland or Norway for a night or 2 to try and catch the Northern Lights! The rays are much stronger there, but don't worry you can still see them in Iceland.
Our flight on Iceland Air was rather peculiar. Although it wasn't a budget airline it certainly felt like one. We paid about US$400 for an economy class seat. It can get squeasy if you're for tall. Only water is provided so bring your own snacks and food! While there was online entertainment, they charge US$4 for headphones (bluetooth headphones and earpieces with iphone jacks do not work!) and most of their films and shows did not have subtitles so I'd advise you to download movies on your own personal devices beforehand.
Overview and Summary
I spent 10 days road-trippin the South coast of Iceland, and these are the 4 main cities we visited: Reykavik, Fludir, Vik and Hof. We visited glaciers, geysirs, waterfalls, caught the Northern lights, swam in geothermal pools and ate plenty of Cod. Before I get into the elaborate details of my trip, here's a tabled itinerary for a quick glance.
