Biscayne, Everglades, and Dry Tortugas National Parks
Day 1:
To start off our adventure we flew into the Miami airport, and picked up a rental car. We got in pretty early and our hotel wasn’t ready yet, so we headed straight to Miami Beach South and relaxed and swam for a few hours. Be aware there are toll roads in Miami and you will need to take the toll roads to lessen your time to the hotel if you are traveling around Miami in high traffic times. They charge by plate, so you’ll get a nice bill from your rental car company. Also parking at the beach is paid parking only, though we had an easy time finding a parking spot.
From Miami Beach to Homestead where our hotel was be warned, the traffic can be pretty bad. With tolls to our hotel was an hour, without tolls our drive would have taken 2+ hours.
We stayed at the Courtyard Miami Homestead which is a great location for easy access to Biscayne and Everglades and less expensive than staying in Miami. We stayed here for 3 nights at the start of our trip, and one more night on the tail end. The room was nice and so was the pool. Walking distance to Starbucks too, bonus points!
