Arriving in Lanzarote

The primary gateway to Lanzarote is Lanzarote Airport (ACE), located near the capital, Arrecife. Direct flights are available from major European cities, making it easily accessible.

The most ideal way to get around the island is by renting a car and you can do it as you arrive at the airport.

There are some good local companies like Cicar, but it can happen, especially in high season, that they have no cars available. Therefore, you might consider booking in advance on the website below:

Where to stay

Lanzarote isn't too big, so you can stay anywhere to visit the whole island; however, I'd suggest splitting your trip and staying in two different areas if you want to maximize your time!

So, for the first part of the trip, for example, you can base yourself in Yaiza to explore the southern attractions, while basing yourself in Teguise to explore the north.

More things to do

Here are some of the best activities on the island:

1. Join a buggy tour from Costa Teguise and discover the incredible scenery of northern Lanzarote.

2. Enjoy an evening cruise along the stunning coast of Puerto del Carmen and look out for wild dolphins.

3. Explore Lanzarote's incredible volcanic landscape by the hand of professional hiking guides with a small group.

4. Swim, snorkel, and kayak in the turquoise waters of La Graciosa on a full-day trip from Lanzarote.

5. Learn how to ride the waves of Famara beach in this surfing class designed for learners of all levels.

How to get around

The best way to explore the diverse landscapes of Lanzarote and reach also the most remote places, it's by renting a car.

The price is quite cheap, the roads are super easy to drive and all the parking lots are free.

Public transportation

If renting a car is not an option, buses operate regularly between towns and tourist destinations but you won't be able to reach every place and schedules are limited. You can check all routes and schedules on this website:

Local Cuisine

Savor the flavors of Canarian cuisine by trying local specialties such as "papas arrugadas" (wrinkled potatoes with mojo sauce), fresh seafood, and the "gofio" (toasted cornmeal). Don't forget to pair your meals with a glass of local volcanic wines.

What to pack

Here's a packing list to ensure you're well-prepared for your visit:

1. Sun protection

2. Swimwear

3. Hiking shoes

4. Water bottle

5. Travel adapter if you come from outside Europe: Lanzarote uses the Europlug Type C and Type F outlets.

6. Power bank to keep your electronic devices charged, especially when exploring outdoors.

Travel Insurance

When to go

Lanzarote enjoys a pleasant climate throughout the year, making it a great destination for sun-seekers. The peak tourist season is during the winter months (December to February) when temperatures range from 18°C to 25°C. If you prefer a quieter experience with fewer crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder seasons of spring (March to May) or autumn (September to November). During these times, the weather is still pleasant.
