Hvar Town: Ultimate Guide and Two-day Itinerary Included

HVAR TOWN, Croatia: It's like if paradise and history had a baby, and that baby was really, really good-looking. Pronounced 'huh-vahr', this slice of Adriatic heaven is where beach vibes and ancient vibes combine. Explore ancient streets lined with lavender-scented boutiques, indulge in fresh seafood delicacies, and soak up the Mediterranean sun on picturesque beaches. It's like the ultimate vacation remix: sun, sea, and a sprinkle of Croatian sass. Welcome to Hvar, where the only thing hotter than the weather is your Instagram feed.

Ready to dive into my personal guide to Hvar?

Let's kick things off with the essentials—getting there and finding the perfect place to crash. I've got all the ferry info and accommodation tips you need, so you can hit the ground running.

Keep scrolling though- I've included the ultimate two-day itinerary for soaking up every bit of Hvar's magic. From sunrise walks to sunset cocktails, I've packed it all in for an unforgettable island escape. Let's make some memories, shall we?

How to get to Hvar town:

Getting to Hvar Town without a car is a breeze with several ferry services departing from Split. Simply hop aboard and let the Adriatic Sea be your highway to island bliss. Here are my top ferry picks:

Jadrolinija:

The tried-and-true choice for island-hopping adventures. The passenger ferry typically takes around 1 hour and 45 minutes to reach Hvar.

Krilo/Kapetan Luka:

Speedy and efficient, perfect for those eager to hit the beach ASAP. Their passenger ferry gets you to Hvar in just 1 hour.

Accommodation Guide:

Personally, I'm all about keeping it affordable, clean, yet stylish, when travelling Croatia, which is why I love using Booking.com. They've got everything from cozy apartments to beachfront beauties, and their user reviews really do offer the best insight into properties.

Here are a few booking.com properties I have stayed at:

Apartmani Katarina

Typically- I don't book places under a guest rating of 9. HOWEVER, this place was a real gem find. Yes, it is a tad older, BUT it was super clean, phenomenal location and views. Not to mention host was super accommodating and let us leave our stuff after checkout while we explored town.

Sea You Rooms
@tame
This place had the best location and view of all the times I've stayed on Hvar. However, it is only a single room and private washroom without a kitchenette. The hosts were great and place was super clean.

Two-Day Itinerary:

Day 1: Morning

Try to take a morning ferry from Split to maximize your time on the island. Arrive in Hvar Town via the ferry from Split.

Drop off your bags at your accommodation and freshen up for the day ahead (many places will help store your things if you arrive before the check-in time).

Day 1: Late morning/Afternoon

Highly recommend taking a boat to the inlets of a boat tour to Pakleni Otoci (pronounced "pak-leh-nee oh-toh-see") and Red Rocks Hvar. Pakleni Otoci, meaning "Hell's Islands," is pure paradise with hidden coves and crystal-clear waters. Explore secluded beaches and snorkel in vibrant underwater worlds.

Then, brace yourself for Red Rocks Hvar, where vibrant cliffs offer cliff jumping and snorkeling thrills. For the ultimate island experience, don't miss this tour! Oh, and "uvale" (pronounced "oo-vah-leh") means coves—keep an eye out for these hidden gems along the way!

Day 1: Late Afternoon/Early Evening

Head back to Hvar Town and get ready to grab some dinner before heading to one of the best places to watch the sunset from town

Aim to be at Hula-Hula around 7pm (they close at 10pm)

Day 2: Morning

Sleep in and recover from last night's festivities with a leisurely brunch at a cozy café in Hvar Town. Indulge in some  coffee and some "Pekara" (pronounced: peh-kah-rah) is basically the Croatian version of a bakery—where you can snag all the yummy, fresh-baked goods your heart desires! 🥐🥖🍰

Here's a fun brunch place recco:

Eywa Hvar - Restaurant & Bar
@tame
Enjoyed brunch here. Closer to my accommodation, less busy, airy sea views.

Head straight to the nearest beach for some refreshing morning swim and soak up the Mediterranean sun OR take a taxi boat to the Pakleni Islands for those beach options

Pokonji dol Beach

Closest pebble beach. A bit of a walk but it's a nice walk. You can taxi to it if you really want to.

*** Note: If you do go to a beach on Pakleni Otoci- bring your own water. A small Jana water bottle cost us 11 euros last summer.

Day 2: Evening

With the latest ferry back to Split departing at 9 PM, you've got plenty of time to savor every last moment of your island escape. Until next time, Hvar!
