Why Explore Biei: A Guide to this Quaint Town in Hokkaido
It's a small town located in Kamikawa Subprefecture, right in the center of Hokkaido. Biei is full of captivating natural landscapes and landmarks that are known icons of Hokkaido. To be honest, spending a few nights in Biei town is already an experience itself.
Imagine getting out of a humble train station and being welcomed by the magnificent view of the Tokachi mountain range.
Biei town is pretty quiet and laid-back so if you're used to being in the key cities of Japan like Kyoto, Osaka, Sapporo and Tokyo, then you might need to adjust your expectations when in Biei.
For one, public transport services are limited and arrival/departure is not as often. Restaurants and grocery stores are present, though not as abundant, and may close earlier than usual. There are cafes as well but they offer more of a homey, small family business vibe than that of an aesthetic, Instagram-worthy coffee place.
How to Get There
You have several options to get to Biei town. You can take the train, bus, and car from Asahikawa and Furano, or fly via plane from Asahikawa airport. It's also possible to come from Sapporo via train - approx 2 to 3 hours depending on the train service, route, and potential transfers.
