Place de la Comédie
@sylviadiaz
The center of Montpellier is the Place de la Comedie - named after the historic theater of the same name . Your experience in Montpellier begins here! The Opera Comedie- founded in 1888 which still has theatre and comedy shows on a weekly basis. The center of the plaza has the historic Fontaine des Trois Graces(Three Graces) created in 1777 . Which features a marble sculpture by Etienne Dantoine. Based on greek mythology the daughters of Zeus who represent - seduction,beauty,nature,human creativity and fertility. The sculptor actually went to italy to select the marble blocks he carved to form the centerpeice of the fountain. Although the original sculpture is now inside the Opera de Comedie, the plaster recreation was carefully cast from the original. The water runs off the sides and visitors are allowed to, and often dip thier feet into the water . The plaza has sidewalk cafes and bars to enjoy the views of the Opera and people watch.

Behind the Arc de Triomphe lies the promenade . This lovely park features the most spectacular views of Montpellier from above .The water tower is the centerpiece of the park ,which supplied clean drinking water to the city A statue of Louis the XIV, the sun king dominates the promenade. The original statue was brought to Montpellier in 1718 .After a journey from Paris that took six months it arrived in Montpellier . During the French revolution the original statue was destroyed and the guillotine took it's place. In 1838 a new statue designed by jean-Baptiste de Bay was placed in the Promenade. Dimanches du Peyrou / Sundays in the park feature an antiques/flea market with antiques, jewelry, furniture and food trucks. Surely you can find unique souvenirs or gifts for family and friends. ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Hello/Hola, I am Sylvia , I split my living time equally between Madrid and Las Vegas. Yes, it's true - there couldnt be two more opposite sides of the world,But you know the old saying - opposites attract. My passions are for Travel and wine. After all I am a WSET level 1 & 2 graduate. I can definitely recommend a great wine and food paring, a great bottle by region ,or based on your tastes. My travels so far have brought me to Spain, France, Italy, New York City, San Francisco and Syria - just to name a few. My real travels started when I decided to tempt fate, quit my job and travel alone to Spain and Syria to explore my family roots. The people, places and experiences were one of a kind, and those amazing adventures-fueled my passion for travel and new experiences. After all, ringing in the new year on the streets of Rome with complete strangers is pretty amazing! My mission is to inspire people who have never traveled before- to take that leap, and land in another country . Whether you are alone or well accompanied - you can do it . I would love to introduce you to the vibrant and complex world of wines .To the amazing bouquet and taste profile of a young red wine from beaujalais , or a whitefrom Raix Baixes, there is a wine for everyone. The craftmanship and talent that goes into producing an incredible bottle of wine is priceless. Your travel experiences will warm your soul, and spark new inspiration into your life . I am honored and thrilled to guide on your journeys. Trust me - they are going to be amazing !
