ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Ricardo Salgueira
Hello, I am Ricardo Salgueira. I am 46 years old and was born in Lisbon. I am passionate about Portugal, its people, gastronomy, history, culture, and traditions. I lived in Spain for 8 years, specifically in Badajoz, where I opened a bar and explored the wonderful, yet challenging, world of nightlife. During those 8 years, I easily fell in love with various fabulous aspects that also exist in Spain. I also lived in England for 1 year, where I worked as a Coordinator for a software company specializing in clinical records for hospitals. It was a very different year from what I was accustomed to because in England, everything is very different, especially the weather. Then I spent 8 years in the country that changed my life the most, Mexico. In the city of Monterrey, I worked for the same company related to hospitals, but as a Project Manager in two private hospitals. It was there that I met my wife, who is Mexican, and we had our princess. Later, I opened a bakery and a Portuguese-style restaurant. But the immense passion I feel for Portugal made me want to return and never leave again. This country, which I know so well from north to south, with different customs, such diverse and wonderful gastronomy (for me, the best fish and seafood in the world), despite being small, is so rich in culture and history and composed of such varied microclimates, which provide wonderful landscapes. Small paradises, beaches surrounded by rocks forming small paradises, Alentejo plains with so much to discover, river beaches hiding the most beautiful landscapes. And let's not talk about the monuments, castles that seem to have come out of a fairy tale, 12th-century churches, monasteries that besides their beauty and magnitude, hide secrets of some of Portugal's most famous recipes. For example, the recipe for pastéis de nata, from the Jerónimos Monastery, which when they closed, the monks sold the recipe to a pastry chef and now, they are one of the most famous in the world.
