Kilimanjaro climb items check list
Summiting Mount Kilimanjaro might be a bit scary, but it is definitely worth it. I have done my summit on 1 Jan 2024 and, frankly speaking, it was the best experience of my life.
Preparing for Mount Kilimanjaro was one of the key factors for this amazing trip.
See below the list of all the items that is necessary for you to take for this climb:
- membrane waterproof jacket
- membrane waterproof pants
- warm winter jacket
- warm winter pants
- thermal underwear (2 synthetic and 1 containing wool for summit night)
- poncho (for rain)
- hiking socks for daily hikes
- smartwool hiking socks for summit night
- warm wool socks for sleeping
- power bank (but don't forget to charge your devices in advance!)
- tooth brush
- tooth paste
- lip balm
- moisturizing cream
- sunblock spf50+
- cap for daily hikes
- warm fleece hat for cold and summit night
- balaclava
- buff
- camel bag 2 liters
- flasks / thermos (preferably 2 bottles 1 liter each)
- head torch
- lamp for tent
- extra batteries for torch and lamp
- wet wipes
- toilet roll if you're not hiring a portable toilet
- pillow
- fleece jacket
- fleece pants for summit night
- hiking boots with ankle fix
- comfortable shoes for the camp (for example, crocs)
- linen or thermal gloves
- mittens for summit night
- 30-40 liters backpack for every day hikes
- 100 liters duffle bag
- sleeping bag -15C at least
- electrolytes
- snacks
- underwear
- 3 T shirts with short sleeve (not cotton!)
- 2 shirts with long sleeve (not cotton!)
- 3 trekking pants or yoga leggings
- kinesio tapes for knees starting from summit night till the final descend (if this is what you are used to already)
- compressed towels that dissolve in water
- trekking poles
- micro spikes
- water absorbent handkerchief
- sunglasses cat3/cat4. Preferably to get the one that covers the eyes from the side too as you'll get a lot of dust flying into your face during the descend
- deodorant
- hair brush
- dry shampoo only if your hair gets greasy really fast
- sanitizer
- small plastic bags to manage any waste in your tent and then put it in a common bin
- earplugs
- hand warmers and leg warmers
- any medicines that you're taking regularly + your preferred painkiller as most likely you're gonna get a headache at least once during the expedition
