Explore Blackwater Falls State Park like a local
Park at the viewpoint
It’s a very short walk from the parking lot to the viewing deck, so I recommend checking that out while you’re there.
Kayak Put in
From this parking lot, you can also access the put in for kayakers. To the left you’ll see a rough trail that leads straight down the mountain, snaking its way through large root systems and small boulders. Once you get to the river, you can scramble upstream depending on the level. Low water days are perfect for lying on a sunny rock and eating snacks. If the water is a little bit higher you might be able to watch kayakers put on the class 5 river and if it’s extremely high, you’ll get a unique look at the waterfall. No matter the level, that section of the Blackwater River is incredibly dangerous due to undercut rocks. Stay aware and safe while exploring.
