Driving in Costa Rica
Renting a car will allow you to visit anywhere you please, and there are so many places to go! An all-wheel-drive/four-wheel-drive vehicle will ensure you won't have any issues on the rural, pothole-riddled roads. Be aware that road rules are very different in Costa Rica and you should be hyper-aware of your surroundings and other travelers on the road. Take a defensive driving approach but don't always wait for someone to let you in because they often won't. Start early each day if you are staying in San Jose, as the morning commuter traffic can cause hour-long delays.
