History, colonial architecture and good food up in the Andes - great place to fly into and spend a couple days before exploring the rest of the country

TelefériQo Cable car

Take a cable car up to the mountains above Quito. At the top, you can explore the trails by foot or rent horses. Especially if you plan to walk, it’s better to do this on your second or third day in Quito once you’ve had some time to acclimatize to the altitude. Go early in the day to avoid thunderstorms!

I liked this area near the parque Carolina, with a lot of restaurants in walking distance. A lot of embassies in the area which made it feel very modern and safe.

📍Ecuador Originally from Hawaii, but I’ve been living in South America for the last few years. I love exploring all South America has to offer - from hiking up to glaciers in the Andes, river rafting in the Amazon, to surfing deserted beaches. When I’m in the cities I love finding the best restaurants to eat at — especially those that showcase local ingredients and highlight the unique culinary identities of the continent. Ive been lucky enough to travel Ecuador with my Ecuadorian partner who knows all the best insider tips! Excited to share them with you all #Galapagos Guides coming soon!!
