Tbilisi CityKIT: A design lover’s city guide

Tbilisi CityKIT: A design lover’s city guide

Discover my collection of tightly edited places to eat, stay, and play in my current hometown, Tbilisi. This city guide spotlights industrial-chic hotels, hip co-working spaces, urban cafes, cutting-edge art spaces, a hole-in-the-wall marionette theater, and those elusive, off-the-grid experiences that make a city come alive. Georgia is a place where the old and the new, the real and surreal, all unite in a singular manner — in its art, streets, politics, and way of life. The country is full of whimsy, warmth, and magic, and yet, despite its old-world appeal, Georgia is buzzing with newfound vigor and vitality, having long since shed its Soviet shackles. And nowhere is this energy more palpable than in Tbilisi, the heart and soul of Georgia. Our Tbilisi guide includes a link to a curated map with all the recommended places to eat, play, and stay. So, what's in the guide? Here's a glimpse: • 5 design-led, sustainable hotels • 3 swanky apartment rentals • 6 top spots for coffee and nibbles • 9 lunch spots • 15 dinner spots • 5 evening hotspots • 5 suggested neighborhood walkabouts • 10 must-do/must-see city experiences • 7 handpicked shops • 4 tour suggestions

Stays

Stamba
@sveendorp
Remodeled out of a Soviet-era publishing house smack dab in the middle of Tbilisi's creative district, this stylish industrial-chic abode packs quite a punch. With its 5-story jungle atrium of exposed concrete pillars and a glass-bottomed pool, the outlandishly design-led hotel is a destination in its own right. Spaces celebrate the city's creative energy, with local art boldly mounted on floor-to-ceiling vintage bookshelves, lush foliage spilling down massive concrete pillars, and salvaged printing equipment throughout. Rooms are light-filled and boldly decorated with playful pops of color and bespoke décor. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame expansive terraces overlooking Tbilisi rooftops, while exposed brick walls and red diamond-shaped floor tiles create a soothing atmosphere that balances the authentic with the edgy. Comfy duvet cocooned leather beds are framed with warm wooden furniture, abstract Georgian art, and a seductive freestanding brass tub. Stamba Hotel, part of the Adjara group, is dedicated to sustainable urban and regional development in Georgia.

Communal Hotel Sololaki
@sveendorp
Communal Hotel Sololaki prides itself on being more than just a place to rest one's head. An overnight stay in this stylish boutique hotel, tucked away in the historic neighborhood of Sololaki, feels more like being welcomed into a Georgian family's home than a hotel. And design enthusiasts will love the mid-century modern furnishings and eclectic collection of objet d'art strewn throughout the rooms.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
My name is Saskia, and I'm the Founder of Offbeat Goat, a travel platform for conscious and discerning travelers. We showcase a tightly edited collection of storied places that are aesthetically beautiful, transformative, and have narratives connected to sustainability. Having spent over two decades traveling and working in economic development and humanitarian efforts, I’ve shifted my focus to sustainable travel. Through Offbeat Goat, I act as curator and storyteller, spotlighting destinations that blend aesthetic appeal with positive impact. I know what I like when I see it and feel it—boutique design-led hotels, local artisans, farm-to-table restaurants, creative design spaces, and those behind-the-scenes experiences that make travel come to life. Our sweet spot, however, is finding places that are beautiful inside and out, dedicated to enriching their communities and preserving the environment. When I am not on the road, you'll find me crafting stories, filming, and writing from my current home base in Tbilisi, Georgia. We are excited to share our CityKITs - curated city guides of favourite places to eat, stay and play. Happy trailblazing!
