Let's kick things off with some basic questions.

How many Universal parks are in Orlando?

Currently, there are two theme parks (Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure) and one water park (Volcano Bay). However, on May 22, 2025, a brand-new Universal theme park called Epic Universe will open its gates.

Which ones should I visit?

All of them! Each of the three parks feel very different from one another so we highly recommend visiting 2 main parks and the water park.

Here's a quick overview of what to expect:

Universal Studios offers great variety of rides and shows that truly immerse you in the magic of movies.

At Universal Studios, there are many 'screen rides'—rides that use screens and seat movement to create the sensation of high-speed travel—such as Transformers: The Ride - 3D and The Simpsons Ride. Additionally, the park features some older rides that showcase amazing practical effects, like Revenge of the Mummy: The Ride and MEN IN BLACK Alien Attack.

Islands of Adventure stands out with its immersive themed areas, including the Jurassic Park section and Marvel Super Hero Island.

It also features three world-class roller coasters: Jurassic World VelociCoaster, The Incredible Hulk Coaster, and a (relatively) family-friendly roller coaster with an outrageously long name—Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure.

Both parks feature a large area dedicated to Harry Potter. In Universal Studios, you'll find Hogwarts Castle, which houses an epic dark ride called Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. This ride is essentially a flying simulator with incredible animatronics, including dementors and a dragon. Additionally, in this themed area, you can explore Hogsmeade Village, complete with shops, a restaurant, and other locations familiar from the books and films.

In Islands of Adventure, there’s an even larger Harry Potter area: Diagon Alley. It features numerous shops, a restaurant, the Knight Bus, the shadowy Knockturn Alley, and the land’s crown jewel—an indoor roller coaster and 3D dark ride called Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts. And did we mention that this area includes a life-size dragon that breathes real fire?

Volcano Bay is a water park with a relaxed tropical island vibe and a variety of water attractions. These range from its 'lazy river,' called Kopiko Wai Winding River, to the unique TeAwa The Fearless River, and the park's signature attraction: Krakatau Aqua Coaster, which is essentially a family roller coaster on water. Don’t forget to explore the volcano—you might uncover some cool secrets!

Can I visit multiple parks in one day?

Yes and no. The two main parks definitely require a full day each. However, based on our experience, the water park can typically be done in half a day.

The best option would be to purchase park tickets that allow park hopping, so you can enjoy a half day at Volcano Bay and then head to another park for the rest of the day.

Another perk of park hopping is that you can ride the Hogwarts Express, which offers a convenient way to travel between the two Harry Potter lands: Diagon Alley at Universal Studios and Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure. What’s even cooler is that the journey is different depending on which direction you're traveling.

Where can I buy tickets?

Park tickets and accommodation options are available on Universal Orlando's website.

When to buy tickets?

The golden rule is to buy your park tickets or vacation packages that include accommodation as early as possible to get the best price. You can also watch out for promotional deals, such as 'Buy a 2-Park, 3-Day Ticket and get 2 extra days for free.

From our experience, Universal's website unfortunately doesn't allow you to book your vacation if you're from Europe, but you can call them and book it that way. They are very helpful, so don’t hesitate to reach out!

Where to stay when visiting Universal Orlando?

We highly recommend staying at one of Universal's hotels to enjoy early entry to the parks (super important!) and complimentary bus shuttles between the parks and your hotel.

When your budget is tight, consider staying at one of Universal's Value category (3-star) hotels. We especially recommend Endless Summer Surfside and Dockside (it doesn’t really matter which one you choose). Both look nice and new, and offer pools, restaurants, a merchandise shop, and even a Starbucks.

Helios features a rooftop bar with unparalleled views of Epic Universe and a large pool area. It will open its doors alongside Epic Universe on May 22, 2025.

Is it easy to visit Universal Orlando without a car?

Yes, it’s actually very simple. You can take the number 42 bus from Orlando International Airport for $2, which will bring you close to Universal's Endless Summer Resort. From there, you can use Universal's free and easy-to-use transportation system.

Krusty Burger

We mainly recommend the Krusty Burger to Simpsons fans who appreciate a burger with quality that might be on the lower side, but its taste will make you want another one. We especially enjoyed the burger's cheese sauce and the curly fries that come with it.

Make sure to try the famous Butterbeer from the Harry Potter franchise when you're at Hogsmeade or Diagon Alley. Our favorite is frozen Butterbeer, but they also offer regular and hot versions.
