πŸ“ Where is Paphos?

Nestled along the sun-kissed shores of southwest Cyprus, Paphos captivates with its rich history and breathtaking coastal beauty. The city serves as the capital of Paphos District and boasts a blend of ancient allure and modern charm.

Β Paphos is steeped in classical antiquity, with its roots tracing back to two legendary locations - Old Paphos, now known as Kouklia and New Paphos. Wander through ancient ruins and marvel at the remnants of a bygone era, including majestic temples and intricate mosaics that whisper tales of ancient gods and mythical legends.

Situated on the picturesque Mediterranean coast, Paphos offers a paradise for sun-seekers and adventurers alike. Immerse yourself in the azure waters of the Mediterranean Sea, or bask in the warm Mediterranean sun on pristine beaches that stretch as far as the eye can see.

🏝️ Aphrodite's realm:

According to myth, Paphos is the birthplace of the goddess Aphrodite, rising from the seafoam with unparalleled grace and beauty. Explore the sacred sites dedicated to the goddess of love and fertility, where ancient rituals once honoured her divine presence.

Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Paphos boasts an array of architectural treasures and cultural landmarks. Lose yourself in the winding streets of the old town, adorned with vibrant bougainvillea and charming cafes, or immerse yourself in the vibrant arts scene that thrives in this cultural hub.

Β Paphos Travel Tips: What to Know Before You Go!

Planning a trip to Paphos?Β  Here are some handy tips to ensure you have a smooth and memorable experience:

πŸ”Œ Power Adapters:

Don't forget, power outlets in Paphos are the same as in the UKβ€”three-pin plugs. Bring along an adapter, or grab one at souvenir shops at pocket-friendly prices if you forget.

πŸš— Driving:

Remember, we drive on the left side of the road here! If you're renting a car, most are automaticsβ€”easy to navigate, but it never hurts to watch a quick YouTube tutorial beforehand.

🚌 Public Transport:

Public transport outside of Paphos can be a bit tricky (it is sh*t outside of Paphos). Check official websites for bus schedules and use apps like Moovit to navigate or use the Ride Now app for car rental.

πŸŽ“ Student Discounts:

You'll find discounts waiting for you almost everywhere you goβ€”just flash that student ID and enjoy the savings.

Here is full itinerary for Cyprus:

HOW TO RENT A CAR?

Use the Ride Now app to rent a car – no credit card? No problem! Just connect your card with at least 30 euros and you're good to go.

🚘 How It Works:

Find a car you like, scan the QR code, and you're ready to drive. All cars are automatic, and driving is on the left side – it's easy!

πŸ’³ Payment Info:

No deposit is usually needed. But if you're under 20 or have payment issues, a €30 deposit may be held. Remember, late payment results in a €5 fine.

⏱️ Pricing:

Prices include fuel, VAT, insurance, and protection. Choose from short trips to full-day rentals.

πŸ”’ Age Rules:

Drivers under 25 may have to pay more, and some cars may not be available. A deposit is needed for drivers under 20.Β

Hidden Gem Alert: Cape Aspro Trail in Paphos!Β

🚌 How to get there?

Check the bus schedule (Bus 630, €2 fare) and rely on the Moovit app for directions – Google Maps can lead you astray! Embark from Pissouri Beach and follow the coastline to the right to discover the trail entrance. It's a moderate trek with a 300m ascent, offering breathtaking views of Pissouri village. It is very easy to find :)

πŸ–οΈ Feel like unwinding instead? Lounge on the beach along the trail and catch the bus back later.

πŸ” What can you spot on Cape Aspro Trail?

The geology is absolutely fascinating! Keep an eye out for numerous fossils embedded in the rocks. During the Messinian salinity crisis, the Pissouri Basin accumulated thick gypsum deposits. Subsequent faulting led to the formation of slope fan deltas, followed by deeper marine micrites and marlstones. The trail showcases terrigenous siltstone/sandstone turbidites representing fan delta formations. As Troodos uplifted, micro-Gilbert-type deltas advanced southward, interspersed with Terra Rossa palaeosols.

πŸ”† Tips:

- Don't forget to pack sunscreen.

- Bring sunglasses, it is very bright!

- Wear sturdy hiking shoes and use trekking poles for stability.

- Carry enough food and water, as there are no drinking sources along the trail.

- Note that the only restaurant is located on the beach and can be quite pricey.

🌊Discover the Mystical Aphrodite's Rock Beach!

🌺 Dive into Legend: According to one tale, this rock marks the birthplace of the goddess Aphrodite, emerging from the foamy waters surrounding its fragments. It's no wonder it's called Aphrodite's Rock! The maiden, Aphrodite, emerged from Cyprus and captured the hearts of Romans as Venus.

🚌 How to Get There:

Catch bus 360 or 361 for just 2 euros per direction. Let the journey be as enchanting as the destination!

πŸ–οΈ What to Expect:

As you arrive, you'll find a small souvenir shop and a bathroom for convenience. Remember to pack your food and water for a truly carefree day.

πŸŒ… Beach Vibes:

To the left, discover larger rocks and a rocky beach, perfect for exploration. But to the right, behold a stunning sandy beach with colourful sand from andesitic lavas, and of course, the majestic Aphrodite's Rock from the Triassic period. Don't forget your water shoes, just in case!

πŸ“Έ Capture the Magic:

Whether you're soaking up the sun, exploring the coast, or simply basking in the legendary atmosphere, Aphrodite's Rock Beach offers endless photo opportunities!

🌿 Avakas Gorge Adventure

πŸš— Getting There:

Park at Avakas Gorge Parking (find it on Google Maps), then it's a 20-minute walk down to the gorge.

🎟️ Entrance:

Free! Plus, there's a toilet down there for your convenience.

πŸŽ’ What to Bring:

- Hiking shoes that can handle getting wet. Some parts require walking through water, and levels may rise suddenly.

- Food and water. No shops or restaurants nearby.

- Sunscreen to protect against the sun.

- Spare socks just in case.

πŸ‘€ What Else to Explore:

- Besides the gorge, there are plenty of hiking trails. Check out Choose Your Cyprus for details. Most trails start at the Baths of Aphrodite.

- Walk to the Blue Lagoon or join an excursion.
