Reserve ahead of time for hiking and gain free access to
this unique sculpture park consisting of 15 miles of single-track trails and 13 miles of gravel road. Staff is super accommodating and I was amazed at the facilities and all the amenities offered to visitors. Check-in and check-out at the Visitor Center in the Olivier Music Barn. Tippet Rise offers plenty of hiking trails to keep you busy for a few hours or a full day.

Fort Peck Theatre

The theatre along with the entire town of Fort Peck was built by the US Army Corps of Engineers in the 1930's as part of building Fort Peck Dam. The Theatre is now a Historic Landmark and has live performances on weekends in the summer.

The Yellowstone Valley where Billings is located is a canyon carved out by the Yellowstone River. The river form its canyon walls, known as the Rim Rocks and this trail will take you through the prairie and down to the river, offering great views along the way.

Pictograph Cave State Park

Excavation of these caves began in 1937 and they are known as one of Montana's first professional archeological studies. The caves contain over 100 pictographs (rock paintings) and archeologists believe the area has been occupied since at least 8000 years ago.

Yellowtail Dam

The construction of the Yellowtail Dam took place in the 1960s. The visitor center offers great views and a variety of displays focused on the building of the dam and the functions of the dam, although it is only open between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
Donāt forget to take the very scenic 10 mile drive to the marina. The ranger at visitor center will give you map.

Beartooth Highway

68 mile road that runs along the border of Montana and Wyoming, and connecting the towns of Red Lodge and Cooke City. Take this scenic route (~2.5 hr drive) and reach an elevation of up to 10,947 feet.
The road is maintained by the National Park Service and is closed in the winter. I recommend stopping for the Line Lake or Twin Lakes trail.
