Strasbourg is this perfect mix of France and Germany. The region has changed nationalities more times than I can count over the centuries, making it unique to either country. Here’s what you should know to plan your time in Strasbourg!

How Much Time Do You Need?

A weekend in Strasbourg is perfect. Two days is just about what you want to have a slow weekend exploring. If you want to move fast, you can squeeze most of this into one day and do a day trip to Colmar or somewhere else in the Alsace region.

What to See

Start in the center - it has a bunch of the main sites and museums.

The Cathedral is free to enter, but the best part is the roof! Seeing the city from above gives you a real sense of the historicity of the area – the old-style rooftops create much the same skyline that climbers would’ve seen a century ago. And yes, people have been climbing to the cathedral roof for over a century!

Free to enter, but do it right when it opens to avoid waiting in lines. You can pay to go on the roof, which has a different entrance on one side. It's a beautiful view, but know that you have to climb all the steps - there's no elevator!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Amateur Italian, travel advisor, and adventurous eater! I’m a travel creative living in small town northern Italy, and I've been planning travel for over 15 years. I've lived on three continents and visited over 40 countries, so I'm passionate about helping travelers experience the best of a location, no matter where! I love both/and travel: I want to see the big sights AND the local hangouts, the big cities AND the small towns. I’d love to help you do it too! If you’re going to Rome for the first time, you don’t need me to tell you to see the Colosseum. But you might want me to tell you if it’s better as a guided tour or on your own, what add-on’s are worth the money, and what are the extra secret things your ticket can get you! My favorite part of travel is eating well: finding the local haunts, tasting a new wine, and trying the local dishes. Amazing food doesn't have to be expensive: sometimes the best of a place is in the street food! But if it is a splurge, I'll make sure it's worth every penny. I'd love to work with you to create the trip of your dreams!
