Day 1 Arrival + Portoferraio
Take a ferry boat from Piombino. You can either leave the car at the harbor parking or bring it with you on the boat for a small fee. Having a car is recommended for exploring the island. You can check ferry prices at the link below.
If you decide not to bring your car, you will be able to rent it on the island (advanced reservation is recommended). Public transportation is also a great (and sustainable) option. Make sure you check this bus map and info:
Spend a couple of hours at the beach in Portoferraio and visit key landmarks from the main town, rich in history. Some must-dos:
Spiaggia Le Viste
@lorenza
Charming small beach in the center of Portoferraio, with access to a fantastic seafood restaurant. The beach is also next to Napoleon's residence, so it's recommended to visit both when you are in the area!

Villa dei Mulini -Napoleonic Mills House
@lorenza
This used to be Napoleon's residence (for official gatherings, while his private residence used to be the nearby Villa San Martino) during his exile in Elba island. It's definitely worth a visit, and don't forget the beautiful Italian-style garden by the sea!
