Croatia
Trogir and Split)
Trogir
We based our selves near the town of Trogir. It’s a beautiful town with lovely restaurants, historic setting and close to great beaches. It is also around 30 minutiae from Split by car and around 10 minutes from Split airport. Trogir has a lovely historic setting with a stunning promenade full of restaurants and bars. There is also a Sunday market with local grown produce and also with local made pottery and souvenirs.
Split
Split is one of the must see places in Croatia, it is full of history and character as well as beauty. We visited Split for half a day (although you may wish to allow for more time), we walked around the city, visited the Bell tower to take in the breath taking views of the city and walked to the top of Forest Park Marjan. You can also visit the Diocletian's Palace which dates back to Roman times.
Dubrovnik and Markarska
Dubrovnik
We drove from Trogir to Dubrovnik which in total took us around 3 hours there and 3 hours back. It was definitely worth the drive as on the way there you get to see the stunning mountain and sea views which will take your breath away! On the way there we had a quick stop in Duboka which has a breath taking view of the sea.
The city of Dubrovnik is also beautiful with UNESCO listed attractions which overseas the clear sea waters of the Adriatic Sea. Please be aware of you drive to the city that parking is very expensive, I would recommend parking near the ferry port and getting the bus to the city center.
Markarska
On the drive back we stoped to have dinner at the town of Makarska which also lovely to have a stroll around.
Primošten
Primošten is a pretty village with lovely shops and cafes situated alongside a beautiful pebble beach.
Krka National Park
Krka National Park is probably one of the most beautiful places l've visited. The waterfalls and wildlife is stunning! It's a great day out within nature and if you wish you can also walk to the village of Skradin where you will find a great river beach to chill out at. Do bare in mind this is a very popular attraction so I would recommend arriving early or if you would like the park almost for yourself stay there until sunset.
The island of Barč
We took the ferry from Split to Supertar on Brač island. If you wish to travel with a car via ferry you can buy your tickets online (link below) or at the ferry port. The ferry company is called Jadrolinija, There are various ferry times to Brač, however you may still want to pre book to avoid disappointment. There are also many tours and boat excursions available to the island which I have also linked below.
On Brač island we visited the village of Supetar, and the village of Milna. Both are picturesque villages with lovely cafes, restaurants and bars. We then drove to the village of Bol to the famous Golden Horn beach which definitely did not disappoint. Clear blue waters, with many water activities such as windsurfing and boating available. There are also plenty of restaurants and cafes overlooking the sea to enjoy a refreshing drink.
The island of Hvar
The island of Hvar is one of the most popular destinations in Croatia. There are many tours and excursions available to the island and also from the island to secluded beaches and coves. The town of Hvar is a picturesque town with many restaurants and bars to enjoy. Other parts of the island are also beautiful to drive through such as the vineyards and the lavender fields. The lavender fields are in full bloom in June and July however we visited at the end of May and were able to see some already in bloom. We also went to the “secret” beach of Plaža Dubovica, to access this beach you will need to leave your car on the roadside and walk down. It is not the most accessible beach however it is definitely worth it!
Of your taking a car via ferry the ferry times are less frequent so I would recommend to pre book your ferry ticket. The ticket you will need is from Split to Stari Grad, however If your only travelling by foot there are plenty of catamaran boats available which also travel from Split directly to Hvar.
