There is a lot of wonderful street food here so leave room to sample. It can be chaotic, but fun!

Naples is really spread out. I tend to like the lower part of town and not to stay up in the hills. Rather take a cab once in awhile to go to places on the hillsides.

Naples can be gritty as well as luxurious. It was part of the Kingdom of Naples and Sicily and there are still the palazzi of the nobile families. It's having it's renaissance.

Don't miss checking out seeing the "art" Metro Stations.

I do suggest getting a guide to navigate your way around so you can not get lost and see the important museums and churches. I love a guide my first day to get a feel and tips from a local.

There are food tours and Underground Naples tours as well.

If you want a day trip, Pompei, Herculaneum for the ancient sites. You can take a ferry boat as well to get to the islands and other towns on the coast. 

Naples is huge, it can't be seen in a day. If you are only coming on a day trip, I suggest concentrating on one area. There are 30 rione in Naples. 

I would suggest picking what is important, like seeing the Archeological Museum and see that first thing in the morning and then whatever else you want to see up on the hill and then head down and see another rione.

The markets are spread out and filled with places to stop and grab things to eat. Pizza a Portafoglio, the smaller "folded" pizza. Small mixed fried pasta, potato crocche', sweet pastries like the fried Graffe,a donut.

Mixed friend fish or vegetables, served in a paper cone to go, Cuoppo.

It's almost impossible to eat all the street food and then go out for a meal as well.

Naples has such a vast choice both on the seafront and up on the hills. I like being down near the water. It's so great being able to walk by the coast. The area is also filled with restaurants. I have also stayed in an Air B/B. IF you do choose and apartment, find out if there is an elevator. Many older buildings are only walk-ups.

I always start with visiting a market, to see what is in season and what local specialties might be. Some of the markets are small stands on the streets. Naples is a wonderful place for fish of course. You can see the fresh clams spitting water. That's fresh.

There are some amazing churches and museums in Naples. 

Naples is filled with graffiti and street art as well. Some of the first graffiti is in Pompei. You will see a lot of the famous soccer player Maradona, including shrines around town. Toto' and actor is the other famous person often seen all over. 

Pizza was born in NAples and there are several styles now. The old school thinner crust and the new ancient grains,high hydration and long rising times. The street food smaller Pizza a portafoglio, which is a smaller pizza folded in 4's and simply handed too you.

I am a fan of small family trattoria's. There are also several important restaurants in Naples. Many of my favorite more important restaurants are out of town on the coast.

Naples wins for so many fabulous pastries. Sfogliatelle, Baba' al Rhum (rum), Graffe ( a wondeful donut), and some great cookies as well.  There is a Easter Pie called Pastieria.
