Day 1:

7:00 AM: La Fortuna Waterfall

Stop at this gorgeous blue waterfall right at their opening time to explore the spot before the tourist descend later in the day! You'll take a short "hike" which consists of a couple hundred stairs down to the falls, but all and all its fairly easy.

This beautiful waterfall is right outside of town and a must see! You can also take a cab here for $10 USD each way from downtown. I went around 8 am and there was almost no one else there, but it does fill up quickly so get there early!

3:00 PM: Hot Springs

La Fortuna is home to countless Hot Springs and it will sure be well-deserved after a day of exploring. I'd recommend Ecotermales as they have timed tickets, so you avoid the overcrowding of other locations, and it tends to be more relaxing vs. family vibes. But you can't really go wrong with any of them!

I chose to visit this hot springs and was not disappointed! It's smaller than some of the other options, but also more peaceful and less crowded as they sell timed tickets to control crowds. Not adults only but there were very few children.

5:00 PM: Take a Night Tour Hike

This has got to be one of the most unique experiences. You take a guided walk through the rainforest to experience all the creatures that come out only at night. Frogs, snakes, spider, etc. - you'll see it all!

Day 3:

9:00 AM: Rio Celeste

On your last day, take the drive out to Rio Celeste to view the unbelievably blue waters. Take a hike through the rainforest to see bubbling waters, waterfalls, wildlife, and more! Don't forget to stop at some of the roadside stands for food and snacks along the way! You can easily spend the whole day here, or opt to hike faster and head back mid-afternoon to sneak in another activity! (Zip-lining, anyone?)

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Take your travel advice from someone who has lived there 👀 When I started traveling full-time, I learned very quickly that travel burnout is real and changing destinations every couple of days or even weeks was really not for me. I quickly pivoted to slow travel and now spend 1-3 months in each destination I visit. Spending more time in fewer locations means I am able to truly immerse myself into local culture and connect with the community on a deeper level... And it also means I can provide the best travel recommendations! Through my own in-depth experience and tapping into knowledge of the locals I meet along the way, I'm able to provide high quality travel tips to help you make the best out of your trip! I specialize in USA Travel, where I've explored 46/50 states extensively (with plans to reach all 50 by the end of 2025). I am a proud Michigan native and will never pass up the opportunity to introduce more people to it's beauty! My work has been featured on tourism boards such as UP Travel (MI), Saugautck/Douglas (MI), TN Vacation (TN), Visit Kentucky (KY), and more. While I specialize in USA Travel, I also love sharing my international adventures. Most recently, I spent one month chasing the Northern Lights in Norway and have also traveled extensively through Europe and Central America.
