I want to show you the places and food you can't miss on a 3 day trip to my beautiful city: Medellin, Colombia. This is a Packed itinerary.

3 days in Medellin by a local | Food recommendations included

Welcome to Medellin. The city of eternal spring and my favorite in the whole world. I would say that means a lot, having visited more than 100. But I was born here, so I may be biased. 

I live here, and although I love traveling, this is the place I call home and come back to. 

Let me show you what you can't miss on a three-day trip. 

Start your morning in Plaza Botero. These sculputures are really famous and there are many in all countries around the world, all made by our famous Medellin artist Fernando Botero. 

Now that you have regained energy, let's get dancing. Our top picks for Rumba (party) would be:

When you're done, you will take the Metro again. But first, do yourself a favor and have lunch here:

In this plaza you can visit the Antioquia Museum, to get a better sense of life in Medellin, traditions and people painted into art. There is a cafe in the entrance where you can have your morning coffee. 

Be aware that if they notice you don't speak the language, they may try to overcharge you for anything you want to buy, so try to be aware of estimated prices before trying to buy anything. 

You can visit Plaza de Las Luces, a beautiful place that lights up at night (but might get a bit dangerous) so I advise you to visit on the afternoon. In front, you can see important buildings like the Mayor's office and the State's goverment office. Besides it, the Railway station offers you an incredible trip to the past. Visit and get a view of the original 1907 railway.  When you're done, if you like shopping, you can walk around to find how commerce works in Medellin. Lots of bargaining and promotions. 

If you're done and it's still early, head to Parque de los Pies Descalzos. 

This is your opportunity to try Colombian food at its best and try a "corrientazo". This is the menu of the day that working people buy at cheap restaurants and they offer the whole Colombian taste. 

If you are doing this the Colombian way, just look around for buñuelos and empanadas and have that with Coke, hot chocolate or Coffee. That would be our breakfast.

Head to Laureles to eat at some nice restaurant. My recommendations based on your budget:

Get up early, you are going to visit La Comuna 13. You probably heard a lot about this one. This is the neighborhood that used to be the most dangerous in the whole world...And then because of a violent attack, it was reborn into an amazing touristic activity. I won't tell you much because for this you do need a guide telling you the history as you walk through the streets and it will be amazing!

But first: Breakfast. For this day, just search "Mi Buñuelo" on google maps and head to the closest to you. Order Arepa with quesito, hot chocolate, palito de queso (cheesestick) and even eggs. That's the most traditional breakfast you will get. That is what we eat at home. 

If that's too traditional for you, then my recommendation is this:

(I'm recommending this based on the 99% chances that you are staying in El Poblado)

Now you can head to catch the Metro to get to the Comuna 13: Google maps can guide you but all you need to know is you need to get to the San Javier Station. There you will see all the tour guides ready to take you to la comuna by bus.

This is high quality sea food. It's just amazing!

Now that you are back at the Metro, head to Universidad station. Based on your preferences, you can visit: 

Based on the assumption that you are staying in El Poblado, go back to have a nice dinner at:

It's your final day :( Let's make it a big one! 

Today you get to ride the cable car. Head to the Metro and get down on Acevedo station. You will see the signs for the Santo Domingo cable car. The last station is Parque Arvi, your plan for most of the day.

Head here for a fun adventure that includes nature, ziplining and food.  You can have lunch at any of the restaurants inside or outside of the park. 

Start by having breakfast at Café Noir. Get that extra energy for this day.

Take the Metro again, and stop at Estación Industriales. Here you can walk towards Ciudad del Rio. A nice neighborhood that has the Modern museum of Art. If you are not into museums, just take a minute to drink your last coffee at Ganso & Castor

Now you can visit Museo El Castillo. Is a real palace where a really wealthy family used to live. We come here mostly for picnics, so you are very welcome to do your own.

Lets finish this trip having everything! So now the only thing you are missing is nightlife. But first: Food

*Be aware of the day you are going, we don't like to party on a monday :) So the closest to the weekend, the better.
