A classic spot for aperitivo in Venice, you can even dine on their boat out front. This is a favourite of locals and visitors alike and you are sure to make new friends here as well!

Cantina Do Spade
@evelyn
This cantina dates back to the 15th century and legend has it that it was frequented by Casanova. The atmosphere is typical Venetian bacaro, meaning it is a bit small. So for dinner, if dining later in the evening you may want to call ahead and make a reservation. But for just an aperitivo, swing on by! First courses are about 14 €, while a full meal will cost you about 30 €.

See & Do

Libreria Acqua Alta
@evelyn
A fun bookstore built right along the canal. Known for its funky backyard with staircase of books.

Burano
@evelyn
Once a fishing village, the tradition of the bright color houses was an alternative to a lighthouse. Family members would hope the fishermen would be able to spot their home through the fog and make it back to the correct island! Here they are very well known for their Lace craft as well!

My Biggest tip for visiting

Wander into all the churches you can! A lot of the art of Venice is hiding in plain sight in the cities many churches or famous “scuole” where artisans were trained.

Many are free, just go ahead and walk in. Here are a few I enjoyed:

San Giovanni Evangelista, Venice
@evelyn
One of the most prestigious "schools" of Venice, founded in 1261. The inside is decorated with medieval and Early Renaissance works, most notably a series by Jacopo Bellini who worked very closely with the school.

Scuola Grande di San Rocco
@evelyn
Founded by the confraternity in 1478, one of the richest "schools" of Venice, they were able to bring in Tintoretto to decorate their beautiful halls. Paintings are still in their original setting and the building has gone through minimum alteration since foundation.
