The Ultimate Foodie Guide to Mexico City Hotspots (updated Sept 2024)
Khara K.
Eating my way through Mexico City was my favorite thing to do in the 9 months that I lived there, and I took meticulous notes. These places not only wow in food, but in atmosphere - you eat with your eyes, too, right? Here I share with you the standouts, the must visits, and the dishes I still think about to this day.
Important sidenote! There's a good selection of contemporary Asian & international cuisine included. This is not a taco or mexican restaurant guide but rather the buzz-worthy hotspots that I've tried and would recommend to my inner circle. I've taken my time to recount what stands out to me about each place - including what dishes I'd order again.
Buen provecho!
Included with this guide:
✨ My personal notes about each restaurant, including must-try dishes
✨ An interactive map showing the locations
✨ Dining recommendations in the neighborhoods of Condesa, Roma Norte, Juarez & Colonia Cuauhtémoc

SARDE
@digitalnomadtravel
Sarde is chic yet relaxed, with a great playlist every time I've been, and some real standout dishes. The totoaba is a must try for taste and presentation, the fish & chips is hands down the best I've ever had (yes, better than the UK) the oysters are always fresh and have an inventive presentation and the Crudo de Macarela is picture perfect.

Babero

If an industrial chic setting with open air seating concept and a good play list is your vibe... then don't miss this spot. The food is as good as the people watching and you can't go wrong with either. The pastas, risottos & the fish are stand-outs but you can't really order wrong here,

Salón Palomilla
@digitalnomadtravel
Def make a res for this one! It's best to not know too much as a little surprise is always fun, right? Just trust that this place is really unique and you've probably never seen anything like it. It's a little hard to find from the outside but you will walk back into what looks like a restaurant but you will want to go upstairs. Recommended: the wagyu beef sliders & gyro

Taverna
@digitalnomadtravel
Stunning place, dark, moody and inviting with candlelight accents and plenty of cozy nooks. Great date night spot, a must-visit. Be sure to walk around a bit and explore the space.

Makan

A Singaporean restaurant to satisfy your noodle cravings. The menu is not massive but you can't go wrong with anything you try, and don't miss the cocktails.

Pigeon
@digitalnomadtravel
I love this place for dinner any day of the week, and particularly on a weekend when they have a live band playing outside, parque rio de janiero is green and lively and the buildings surrounding it are gorgeous (def walk around before/after!) Back to the food, I still dream about the gnocci, the tortellini, the marinaded salmon...

Kiin Thai-Viet Eatery
@digitalnomadtravel
Settle in to the lush greenhouse setting, order a bottle of wine and prepare to have your tastebuds blown away with flavor. Try: the spring rolls, pork bowl and any of the curries.

Imbiss

They are known for the fried chicken and it did not disappoint. Other stars were the steak tartare & the wonderfully unique spin on carbonara. Great date night spot.

You're probably thinking... why should I trust her and how do I know she even has good taste!? Great questions!
Here's the thing - I've already done the research, spent the time (and $$) doing the trial and error, trying the not-so-great places and eating some things that may have even gotten me sick! 🙃😣 All so YOU don't have to. 😃😜 So if you don't feel like reading countless blogs, combing through yelp reviews and pulling your hair out trying to narrow down lists on Trip Advisor, then take my advice - promise I won't steer you wrong.🍴✈️ 🌎
