2 Sides of Patagonia - Argentina to Chile

2 Sides of Patagonia - Argentina to Chile

Due to the expansiveness of Patagonia - over 400,000 square miles - and the fact it encompasses the southern end of South America, governed by Argentina and Chile; this is one of the more remote places to reach in the world. The region comprises the southern section of the Andes Mountains with lakes, fjords, temperate rainforests, and glaciers in the west and deserts, tablelands and steppes to the east. This itinerary was designed to experience a couple key areas of Patagonia on both the Argentinian side and the Chilean side; in a condensed amount of time. The focus of the itinerary is on Glaciers National Park, outside of El Calafate; and Torres del Paine National Park in Chile. The itinerary easily combines both countries, however, you can separate them out if you just want to focus on one area of Patagonia, and expand your touring from there. The itinerary will include additional places to say based on budget, mid-budget and luxury accomodations; as well as recommended restaurants, and optional tours and activities.

Day 1 - Arrival El Calafate

Today you will arrive in the city of El Calafate, located on the southern shores of Largo Argentina. El Calafate is an important tourist destination as the hub to visit different parts of the Los Glaciares National Park and there are many bars, restaurants, hotels, inns and hostels to choose from.

Take some time and walk along the lakefront and take in the views and the nature.

The location of the town - between Torres Del Paine and El Chaltén, make this a must-stop destination.

NOTE- For purposes of this trip we did not have the time to add in El Chaltén - however, I highly recommend researching to add in time to the National Park for some hiking/trekking if you have the interest.

Your hotel for your 2-night stay is the delightful Imago Hotel and Spa. A a charming property on the shore of beautiful Lake Argentina, 5 minutes outside the city of Calafate. The hotel provides daily shuttle service into the town of El Calafate, so you can enjoy the quiet, remote location of this resort and still easily access the downtown area for shopping and dinner.
