How to spend the perfect weekend exploring the historic Cork City! 

A Weekend in Cork City, Ireland

Start your day at the historic English Market. Immerse yourself in a bustling atmosphere filled with local vendors offering fresh produce, artisanal goods, and delicious breakfast options. For caffeine addicts, my personal favourite is Coffee Central! You can grab a takeaway cup or sit at their old coffee bar and watch the world go by. Make sure to remember that the market closes on Sundays! 

Spend your afternoon in the hauntingly fascinating Cork City Gaol (jail). Dive into the city's history and learn about its penal past through engaging exhibits and eerie halls. If an afternoon isn’t prison isn’t quite your taste, why not head out to Blarney castle instead and kiss the Blarney Stone, they say it gives you the Irish gift of the gab…better than any souvenir in duty free!

After you have spent some time in the market, go for a little walk and head to the iconic Shandon district. Climb to the top of St. Anne's Church for panoramic views of the city. Don't forget to ring the famous Shandon Bells! The church closes at 3pm every day, so allow yourself enough time to enjoy it 

Enjoy a leisurely lunch at the Crawford Art Gallery Café. Relish in a mix of art and culinary delights surrounded by impressive exhibitions.

Day 2: Waterside Wonders and Cultural Delights

Have a relaxing Sunday morning by taking a stroll along the scenic Cork City Marina. Enjoy the river views and discover the charming marina market with breakfast stalls to suit everyone on your trip. 

Head to Fitzgerald Park, a serene oasis in the heart of the city. Explore the beautiful gardens, visit the Cork Public Museum, and enjoy a picnic by the river Lee.

If a picnic isn’t quite your taste, why not try a vegetarian feast at Salt, known for its European and Mediterranean style dishes.

Enjoy a bustling Saturday night in Cork city on Oliver Plunkett Street. Grab some grub and pints of Guiness in the Oliver Plunkett Bar, always sure to have a crowd and a great atmosphere. If you want some traditional live music, Sin É or Crane Lane would be my favourite picks! Alternatively, for you show fanatics, the Opera House always has an exciting production on you can spend your evening enjoying! 

A fun and unique way to spend the afternoon is by diving into Cork's rich butter-making history at the Cork Butter Museum. Engaging exhibits and artifacts provide insight into a vital part of the city's economic heritage. Just be sure to allow enough time, as it closes at 4pm! 

Spend your evening shopping and dining on St. Patrick's Street. Explore boutique shops, indulge in local cuisine, and experience Cork's vibrant nightlife. 

Have enough time for dinner? A hearty meal at The Mutton Lane Inn is the perfect farewell meal to your time in Cork.
