Preparation

Your Day at a glance

Transport/Car rental

Rent a car for your day trip in Cape Town. You can conveniently pick up your rental at the Cape Town International Airport upon arrival or from one of the many car rental providers in and around Cape Town.

For car rental at Cape Town International Airport, we recommend using Avis.

If you are looking for an alternative to the car rental providers at the airport, consider Rentacheapie. They offer a convenient location and a variety of quality, budget-friendly vehicles.

Wild Cards

If you're planning to visit multiple national parks in South Africa, consider purchasing a Wildcard. This card grants you free entry to all of South Africa's national parks for an entire year, while also supporting the conservation of the country's unique flora and fauna.

Food, Snacks, and Drinks

This tour is a full-day experience that will be jam-packed with exciting activities, so it is essential to come prepared. To ensure that you stay fueled and refreshed throughout the day, we recommend that you pack a selection of snacks, drinks, and a packed lunch the night before your Cape Peninsula adventure. This will allow you to fully immerse yourself in the tour without any interruptions or distractions.

Morning

This trip takes an entire day, so you'll start it right after breakfast. The first stop is the Boulders Beach Penguin Colony, located in Simon's Town. With a Wildcard, you'll have free admission. Start by visiting the two main viewing decks on the beach, then walk the boardwalk to see penguins in their nests and possibly Dassies. For a unique experience, access the small beach section to swim with the penguins through the second entrance gate (included in Wildcard or beach admission fee). Keep in mind the water is cold.

Your next stop for the day is the Cape Point Ostrich Farm. At the Cape Point Ostrich Farm, you will have the opportunity to learn in-depth information about ostriches, including their biology, behavior, and history. You can expect to see ostriches of all ages and sizes, and can participate in guided tours or self-guided walks around the farm. You will learn about the different breeds of ostriches, as well as how they are raised and cared for. You may also have the chance to interact with the birds, such as feeding or even riding them (if offered on that specific day). Overall, the Cape Point Ostrich Farm is a great opportunity to learn more about these unique and interesting animals in an interactive and educational way.

At the Cape of Good Hope, you can expect to see the iconic signpost indicating the southernmost point of Africa and take in the breathtaking scenery. The Cape of Good Hope is a must-see destination for anyone visiting the Cape Point National Park.

Your second stop in the Cape Point National Park is the Cape Point Lighthouse. The lighthouse is situated on an elevated position at the very tip of the peninsula, and offers a panoramic view of the surrounding area. To reach the lighthouse, you can take the scenic hike up a pathway or choose to take the Flying Dutchman funicular, which is a convenient and efficient way to ride up most of the pathway. A ticket is required to take the funicular. Once you've reached the lighthouse, you will be rewarded with stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean to your right and the False Bay to your left. The lighthouse is a historical site, and you can learn about its history and purpose. The lighthouse also offers a great vantage point to take in the natural beauty of the park. The lighthouse is a must-see attraction while visiting the Cape Point National Park.
