Wondering what to see in Thessaloniki? Here's a one-day (or two-day if you prefer to take it slower) itinerary!โ๏ธ
From Zagreb, catch a Ryanair flight from Friday evening to Sunday evening for an ideal weekend escape.
๐จ Where to stay?
Find accommodation on Egnatia Street, it is in the centre of everything.
LET'S GOOOOOO:
1๏ธโฃ Start your day at Kapani Market, bustling with activity in the morning. Find everything from food to cheap souvenirs - perfect for shopping.
2๏ธโฃ Next, head to Agora Modiano and Platia Aristotelous, the city's grand town square.
3๏ธโฃ Continue your stroll to the Thessaloniki waterfront until you reach the iconic White Tower of Thessaloniki.
4๏ธโฃ In front of the White Tower, hop on one of the pirate ships for a panoramic city tour - it's free, but you'll need to buy a drink (minimum 8 euros per person).
5๏ธโฃ Keep walking to the Umbrella Sculpture and Haly Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius.
6๏ธโฃ Refuel with lunch at Kati Ap' Ola Tavern.
7๏ธโฃ Take a bus to Heptapyrgion (note: the bus only accepts coins, and the fare is 0.90-1.80 euros). Ticket: 6 euros, including Trigoniou Tower.
8๏ธโฃ Walk down to the Rotunda and Arch of Galerious.
9๏ธโฃ Finally, enjoy the sunset at the waterfront or dine at local taverns.

๐ฝ๏ธ What to eat in Thessaloniki?
MUST TRY:
๐ฅฎ Trigona Panoramatos - Trigona is a Greek dessert, sweet, crispy pastry triangles filled with creamy custard.
๐ฅง Bougatsa -Greek Custard Pie with Phyllo
๐ง Talagani cheese - a traditional handmade sheep's milk cheese with a strong and full flavour. It's similar to Greek Halloumi because, like Halloumi, Talagani doesn't melt when fried or grilled.
๐ฅ Greek salad with every mealโ Freddo espresso/cappuccino- regular Ice coffee
๐ฅ Fried zucchini with tzatziki sauce
๐ซ OLIVES FROM KAPANI MARKET- lots of different kinds of olives!
๐ท Greek wine!!!!
Places to eat we recommend:
๐ฅ Kapani Market Bakeries for breakfast
๐ฝ๏ธ Kati Ap' Ola Tavern
๐ฝ๏ธ Modiano Tavern
๐ฝ๏ธ Manolis Tavern
๐ฐ Hlios Pastry shop
Indulge in the flavours of Thessaloniki!ย ย
BONUS:
ย Ready for the beach? ๐๏ธ
Thessaloniki boasts a beautiful beach called Perea Beach, but getting there is easy with public transport!
โHow?
First, hop on the 2k bus from the city to the IKEA Bus Station.
At IKEA, switch to the 72 or 72a buses - they'll take you directly to the beach and along its entire length.
๐งพTickets are purchased onboard at the machine! Make sure to have change as it doesn't give change back. A ticket costs 1.80 euros, valid for 70 minutes - plenty of time to reach the beach.
๐ฆ๐ฝ๏ธOnce there, enjoy the many beach bars and taverns for a seafood feast. For non-fish options, my go-to is Manolis Tavern.
๐คฟโ๏ธ๐ฉดDon't forget your towels and swimsuits! The beach is sandy with little shade, so pack sunscreen and an improvised sunshade (umbrella).ย
