Chakra
@arielkotzer
pricey, but one of the most elegant restaurants in town, and maybe in all of israel. this is one of the primary establishments responsible for giving Jerusalem's gastronomy scene its great reputation, and fro good reason. everything from the cocktails to the strters to the main courses to the desserts is meticulously and lovingly put together and served. the way i like to dine here is give the staff a general direction of likes and dislikes and have them do the rest, you won't regret it.

Satya
@arielkotzer
Ilan Garussi, the hands and heart behind the celebrated Chakra restaurant (also reviewed here), now offers his inimitable blend of masterful cooking and warm hospitality in this cosy but rowdy establishment, always packed with what seems to be ( and most likely is ) a bunch of his friends. make sure to book early.

Bezalel
@arielkotzer
morning afternoon and night, this is a great place for a cup of coffee or a bite and a favorite hangout for next door bezalel academy architecture students. the omelette gouda sandwiches are gone almost as soon as they make them. the white bean hummus and croque madame are delicious, as are the burekkas, and everything else.

דוויני פיתה בר Dwiny Pita Bar
@arielkotzer
mahne yehuda's best kept secret, tiny simple and delicious. "open" (on 3 toasted pita strips) or "closed" (in a delicious handmade pita), chraime spicy fish or ground lamb or whatever, it all works. you eat with your hands and the food falls everywhere so dont wear your favorite shirt.

Argento Empanadas At The Market
@arielkotzer
Best 15 shekies you will spend anywhere in the shuk, and probably in jerusalem. This is what happens when a talented chef puts his talent to social good. As they would say in argentina - guau!

פיצה פלורה Pizza Flora
@arielkotzer
I love a simple concept executed well. 1 cashier, one waitress, one cook, all young women, doing their job extremely well, and managing a roomful of hungry people calmly and efficiently. The menu: Pizza, 2 pasta dishes, 2 salads, beer, 3 cocktails, one dessert. The pizza crust is perfect, the sauce delicate, the mozzarella fresh, the toppings simple and delicious. Both pasta dishes were good. The negrito was tasty. The service excellent. there's an additional one on azza st.

Arafat Hummus
@arielkotzer
Just hummus, but The Real Deal. Opens 9am and already it’s hard to find a seat (the place can only hold around 30 people). You can have it straight or with chickpeas or ful or both. Simple, fresh, and delicious.

Talbiye
@arielkotzer
(Updated march 2022) this place changed hands a couple of years ago and is no longer run by the machneyuda group. Although they were smart enough to retain the atmosphere and much of the menu, this is a paler version of the original. From the people who brought you machneyuda, yudale, and the palomar in London, this is the more dignified sister, as befits the jerusalem theater settings. Great for a quick bite or a full meal, including Friday mornings
