Before proceeding to the guide, I just want to share some of my driving experience in Jeju Island. Keep reading👇

Jeju Island is perfect for self-drive adventure❤️. The traffic is smooth and relaxed. The roads are not as complex as in Seoul, and everyone drives at a slower pace (following the speed limits), so you don't have to worry that much👌🏻! They drive on the right side of the road in South Korea, it can be a little confusing and unfamiliar at first if you're used to driving on the left side of the road, however, you will quickly adapt after a while😉!

This time, my family and I chose to choose our car from "Lotte Rent A Car". We chose the Soul Booster model, which comfortably accommodates 3-4 people. However, since we had a lot of luggage, we had to place some bags on the backseat. The car was well-maintained and clean, and we were happy with the car.

We rented the car for 2 days and 8 hours, which cost us around 108,000KRW (inclusive of car insurance). They only offer one type of car insurance, so make sure to purchase it 🚙 When picking up and returning the car, we did so at Lotte Autohouse.

They usually provide the car with a full tank of fuel ⛽️, so it's essential to return it with a full tank (we forgot to refill the tank when returning the car, resulting in an additional charge of approximately 💰 40,000KRW for fuel).

⭐️Why should you rent a car in Jeju?

It’s one of the most convenient ways to get around Jeju Island without the hassle of using public transportation. Plus, renting a car is more affordable than hiring a private car and a driver.  

🚗Requirements for renting a car on Jeju Island

• International Driving Permit (for foreigners)

• Credit Card

• Passport

• Booking Number (from Car Rental Company)

• Driving License from your home country (optional)

💻How to book a car?

1. Go to browser and search "Lotte Rent A Car"

2. Register an account with them (📌note: There is new user discounts!)

3. Choose your pickup and return location

4. Choose your date and time

5. Choose your vehicle type (📌note: Gasoline, Diesel, Electric and etc.)

6. Reserve your car by entering your credit card details and payment will be done at the car rental office on Jeju Island

Tips:

✨Registered users must be the same as the driver, otherwise, they will require you to register a new account on the spot.

✨Online reservation is only to RESERVE your car, payment will only be made when you pick up your car in Jeju.

✨They ONLY ACCEPT credit card payment

🚌How to get to the car rental office?

Part 1:

✅Upon arrival at Jeju Island's airport, head to the car rental service desk (which is located beside the airport entrance)

✅Provide your booking number, passport, international driving license and credit card to the person in charge

✅You will be given a card showing you the shuttle bus number and how to get to the shuttle bus station

✅Follow the sign and board the shuttle bus, it will bring you to Lotte Autohouse 

Part 2:

🔸After arriving at the car rental office, just head to the counter and get a number and queue

🔸There will be a designated counter for foreigners, the staff can speak English and explain all the necessary details before handing over the car to you
