📅 How Long to Stay?
Both capitals offer a plethora of things to do outside the markets. The Helsinki market is smaller, it can probably be seen in an evening, however, the city itself offers enough to do that visitors can easily stay 3-4 days. Tallinn on the other hand offers a more immersive experience, the Old Town can be done a day trip from Helsinki, but with the grand charm, 2 days is recommended.
✈️ Plane
Both destinations are well connected within Europe. Helsinki's Vantaa Airport has more flight options, especially direct from North America and Asia.
🚆 Train
If you want to cut down travel time between Nuremberg and Munich, the DB ICE service takes an hour to travel between cities, half of the bus. However, that does come with a higher ticket price, €35-50 is common for the route.
Between Munich and Salzburg, OBB, the national operator of Austria also runs trains on this route. They compete with DB with both regional and high-speed trains, which take about 1h:30m.
Typically DB will have cheaper tickets, and with over 50+ trains total making the journey each day, you won't have to worry much about scheduling.
🚌 Bus
The cheapest way to travel between Nuremberg and Munich is by the German operator FlixBus. Travel times can be nearly 2 hours but the cost savings can be worth it, as tickets can be had for as low as €10.Between Munich and Salzburg, the story is the same, nearly a 2h:40min bus trip, but tickets are a third of what the trains cost.
There are typically 8-10 bus trips each day on each route, with the majority being in the early morning or late evening.
Note: Direct Nuremberg to Salzburg trips do not exist, as any trip, both train and bus get routed through Munich with a transfer.

Senate Square
Senate Square is at the base of the Helsinki Cathedral, it's the most popular and oldest Christmas market in the city. When people visit Helsinki during Christmas time, this is the market that they flock to.
It offers delicious eating experiences (Vegan friendly) and unique gifts sold by locals!
The warm and inviting atmosphere will help take your mind off the Finnish winter, and the beloved carousel is a staple in the center of the market.
The market in Finland, while it see's 300,000 visitors annually, it is by far one of the quietest and peaceful markets you'll be able to experience.
Finland typically has a short Christmas season, meaning markets are only open from the first weekend in December until December 22nd.

North of the market square, is the Castle of Nuremberg, which dates back to the 11th century. Hosts a royal palace, gardens, and views of the city.
On the second Thursday in December, annually since 1948 school children with their lanterns start at Kaiserstraße and make their way up to the castle.
